I didn't know if I could put this in the guide section because it isn't about vinilla RTW. Heres my question. Does anyone have a good strat. for RTR Carthage. I tried reading the other guides but they are alot different then what you start out with in RTR.
I would suggest taking Numidia as fast as possible, they are your allies I know but they will stab you in the back, which you cannot afford when in war with say the Romans or other Nations.
Then try and make an alliance with Spain , so you do not have to fight them right away - since your forces in Iberia are in to few numbers to secure your Iberia right away.
Focus on taking Sicily from the Greeks, then you can try and take southern Italy.
Or you can focus on Iberia once you have taken Sicily.
For an added Challange you can let the Romans tech up by leaving them allone.

First, I´m not a conquer-all-the-world-kind-of-guy. Second I try to roleplay every faction as historical as possible. Playing Carthage in RTR let gives you two choices: either you can start conquering or you can turtle. I kinda do something in between.Quote:

First turn:
*On the first turn take Hanno and all your troops on sicily and assault Agrigentum and eventually Syracuse. You have eles so just smash the gate and storm in. Don´t bother about casualities since the Greeks will be too busy elswhere. Then sue for peace, 5-10k and they might even take you up on an alliance. I find helping the Greeks against the Romans and the Macedonians will let me interviene in the Aegean (where the Colossus is)
*Still on the first move take your troops in Caralis and take Turris Libisonis.
*Ship troops from Ebysos, Carthago Nova and Cirta? (to the west of Hippo Regius) and move on Icosium before your allies the Numidians take it.
*Take your general outside Thapsus and move on the rebel town of Cidamus.
*What you build is up to you but basically I tend to go first with temples to get loyalty up to max tax, roads, ports, traders etc to gain cash. Carthage will do as military centre for now. Oh, and build temples on the first turn in every prov except Carthage, Hippo and Hadrumetum since loyalty is already high enough there. Your initial funds wont be enough.
Second turn:
Syracuse will fall, you start besieging Icosium while moving on Cidamus.
Third turn:
Icosium falls, besieging Cidamus and peace/ alliance with the Greeks.
Fourth turn:
Move army in Icosium towards the Iberian rebel towns of Saguntum, Baecula and Merobriga. Watch out though, you´ll need heavy garrosing there. One trick, since money isn´t a problem, is to fill a rebellious-towns unit rooster with peasants - will only cost you max 1080d. This will significantly increase loyalty.
When your Iberian quest is over you´ll have one army in Iberia, one I the vincinity of Tripolitania Sup/ or -minor and the one in Sicily will be withdrawn to Africa. The setup for your second stage is now clear; take out the Numidians (allies) in one blitz-move: take Capsa, Dimmidi and Tingi in one turn leaving them in Nepte and a high probability of becoming a protectorate (or just wipe them out). Most of the time the Ptolemies will be very hostile so don´t bother allying with them. Numidia will send a diplomat to them in search of an alliance - bribe him. Don´t give the Ptolemies a reason to aid them at this point.
Now all you´re conquest is over and you should easily be done before 275bc - that is 10 turns into the game.
From this point I build and response to whatever happens. Usually the Iberians will become a nuisence and even Gaul. Initially SPQR and the Romans are easy to ally with but I always choose the Greeks side if they move on them. Ptolemies will come wandering through the Tripolitanian desert sooner or later. This is really all the excuse i need to swiftly take Cyprus, Rhodes and Salamis from them. Sometimes I even take Sidon and Tyre as they where founded by the Phoenicians - pre-decessors of the Cartahaginians. I never take out the Ptolemies completly but eough to turn them into a protectorate.

Thats awesome, I was thinking about it today while I was doing yardwork and I wanted to do something like you did, but I would take all of current spain and then fortifie(sp?) the pyrennes so that front won't be the thick of my problems and then move on to the Numbians and then Eygpt? Maybe. But thank you guys for the strats. Im going to go try these out. :bow:
I just blitz Scicilia and try to keep the Scipii from expanding. I also try to hold onto my Iberian province(s) and assault mainland Italia as soon as possible.
Lots of meat gets thrown at the Romans but eventually they die.
does carthage actually get archers now? in 1.1 they couldnt recruit archers which is pretty silly..numidia could recruit archers, i havent played as carthage in 1.2 can someone tell me if archers are recruitable?
In RTR Im pretty sure they get archers.

Spain is a butcher's ground if it is not a top priority so watch you step there. Usually you can stall for time by playing the Spanish off against the Gauls. The trick to Spain is to take the East of Spain first and work your way into the centre whilst shutting of the pyrennes from the Gauls. Spain is easy to defend because of all the rivers, if you use the terrain you will hardly lose 10 men.
If you want to Blitz Spain, use ships and make sure you took the rebel towns first.
Romans are best taken once you hold the coast of the whole of the Western Mediterrean (this will mean war with the Gauls) is your so you have a direct overland route as well as a Southern invasion route. By this time you should also be powerful enough to launch a pincer attack. The trick is to go heavy in the North first, wipe you the Julii North of the Po and guard the pass into Dalmatia to stop overland Brutii re-inforcements at the Alps. Afterwards you head for the Scipii who you should blitz out of existence. Then squeeze the Julii out of existence, kick the Brutii out of Italy and surround Rome. Rome is harder to take out so it is best to surround them and starve the city whilst you kick the Brutii out of Greece or get ready to face Egypt.
