1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
After several campaigns I am looking for a new challenge. So I got the idea of a challenge cup.
:book: Please read this to see if you want to join :book:
1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Rules:
1. You play RTW patched or unpatched without mod
2. You play very hard/medium/huge
3. You play Brittania
4. You do not bribe
5. You fight all battles by yourself
6. You do not besiege or attack any settlement held by Gauls, that is not one of the objectives
7. You play straight on. Do not load an old stand.
8. You do not use unfair tricks in your battles
9. You count your losses as well as the losses of your enemies (w/o sea battles)
10. You report frequently about your progress
You can restart the game, but you have to start from the very beginning!
Your game is over as soon as you hold all objectives.
Everyone can join the cup.
There will be a starting date (maybe 15th of June). Everybody plays one year (two turns) per day. Everybody who restarts has to catch up asap.
Objectives:
Conquer and keep
- all inhabited islands (Britannia, Hibernia, Palma, Caralis, Sicily, Crete, Rhodes, Salamis)
- Jerusalem and Damascus
Valuation:
1. You get 1,000 points for each objective (10,000 in total)
2. You get minus 500 points for each year you are playing
3. You get 1,000 points if you have the best kills/losses ratio in the end
4. You get 1,000 points if you have lowest loss count
5. You get 1,000 points for highest kill count
6. You get extra 1,000 if you also take Chersanesos
7. You get 3,000 if you also take Themiskyra
The winner is the commander with most points. He is allowed to use the title BRITANNICUS under his name. ~

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Hm....if it wasn't for the fact i'm too lazy to get 1.2, i would take part in this. I'll keep an eye on this, see who wins.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
C'mmon, you are not that lazy, At laest you wrote this Modding for Dummies.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Well, I just can't patch my ver.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
And anyways, i refuse to download 1.2, because there isn't a noCD-crack for it. I prefer to play with a noCD-crack, as it takes away the inconvenience of having to spend 10 minutes looking for the CD whenever i want to play.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
So there are some difficulties in 1.0 and 1.2 , so I think it would be fair enough to play ver. of your choice.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
And one more thing : 1.0 is even more challenging , because generals suck.

It is alright to me. Just want it to be compareable.
Any other suggestions?

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
no mercs.
Edit : maybe no expansion on german territories , except port regions.
Also no further expansion in Asia

IliaDN,
I think you need mercs. The objectives are so far away from home that you need reenforcement there. On the other hand there are players who need good cav to be happy. They should get the chance to buy one.
I blocked the way through France, because this is the obvious path. Do you think people would chose to go through Germania to conquer the islands and Jerusalem? I'd love to see this ~D

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
New coments :
1. Why not VH/M?
2. By not conquering some regions I meant that it would be just harder to play while trying to save your motherlands and expanding a lot;
3. What abot extra points for saving your homelands - about 100-500 for each turn or year?
4. Agreed about mercs.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
What constitues "unfair tricks" in battles?
As the saying goes, "All's fair in lova and war."

1. vh/m/large - that was my proposal, too
2. Do not understand your point.
3. You have to have your home (or at least the island) anyway. I do not want to restrict the game to much - diversity, you know. It would be funny if someone decides to leave Britannia, conquer the Med and come back to take his home again.
4. Agreed
I think the campaign will be bloody hard anyway. The Gauls are your natural enemy and you have no effective way to hit them. Of course you can kill their field armies and their fleets but without taking the towns you can never rest.

Things that are forbitten in Multiplayer games. Like cornering.

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
It would be much much more challenging and extreme if you lost 1,000 points for every province taken that is not one of the objectives. This would force a sort of crusades type of naval strike.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Al, I agree! But this is the first time I try to get a scenario like this. And I believe it will be tough. You will have massive problems with Gaul from the very beginning, you will get trouble to almost all major factions, you have big supply routes and happiness is a factor. ~
By the way, I think this is a crusades type. However, the crusaders attacked every country they liked to. :duel:

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
I'm going to give it a try anyway (with my own stipulation attached) when I get back this evening. Should be a blast. I wonder if it should count as a province taken if I just raid an enemy city, loot n destroy and then withdraw my army straight away. A good way of making money and encouraging early settlement growth while weaking my enemies.
I think the trick will be securing borders, beating Gaulish armies and then slowly building up a massive army with a big stacked fleet and then sailing for the Middle East, stopping along the way to pick up mercs from various coastal territories and raiding islands along the way. This will keep the army strong and allow the capture of the necessary islands. It will be a major challenge, but someones got to do it.
By my reckoning this campaign should leave you at war with:
Gauls innevitably.
Carthage / Spain depending on who holds Palma
Carthage / Julii depending on who holds Caralis
Carthage, Brutii and/or Greeks depending on who holds the Sicilian provinces
Possibly Greeks depending on who owns Crete and Rhodes
The Egpytians on Salamis
In other words, you're not going to be popular.

Yes, it is going to be big fun?
Al, why can't you wait until the competition starts?

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Because I'm an impatient git ~:) .
Don't worry - I will be taking part in the competition. I'm just going to get some practice in, I haven't played Britannia in ages. Haven't even played R:TW vanilla in a long time - been working on a Greek mod so my mind is full of phalanx and hoplites.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Hurrah!! I've noticed that you have changed the rules to Patched or Unpatched!! You can count me in to this competition! We just need a list of who is playing now.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Count me in this competition.
It sounds quite fun to play on some certain objectives with others.
Also the Britannicus title sounds great! ~D

Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
1. About motherlands I mean that if you surrender them to enemies you lose points;
2. Why not huge unit scale?

IliaDN,
1. You need to have them in the end, anyway. Why punishing commanders that surrender and take it back afterwards? :duel:
2. I have to check what my computer can do. Maybe I just used the wrong word. (I play a German version and it is hard sometimes to compare the notions)
By the way: should we start earlier? I see some of the participants are getting impatient. ~
It is very important that everyone starts at the same time and has the same speed! ~:grouphug:
And please: no excercise before the start!
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Also Huge units tend to suck most of the Barbarian factions dry as they pump out unit after unit and never ever manage to upgrade their units. Which means the Julii and Brutii have an easy time of it.

1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Looks like the rules are mostly accepted and that the participants are gathering. We can bring the start forward.
So lets play the first two years over the weekend. I am looking to your reports on Monday. We should start a new threat, maybe in the colloseum.
IliaDN, do you now what pez is doing?
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Oh fook, i don't whether i can take part just now, as i screwed up while modding Scythia on RTW. I'll reply back in a few days to tell you the situation.
-
Re: 1st All Britannia Challenge Cup
Mikeus,
there is just one year (2 turns) per day. I think this is not very much, especially in the beginning. I guess the first two days there will be no fighting at all (as you may not attack any Gaulish village).
Hope you can make it. If you join us some days later, that is o.k.
