City Defense - An idea/question/poll
When i defend a city, i like to think that the people i am defending would rather be in my empire than under the conquerors. If this is the case, especially if there is good public order, i would like to see my army bolstered by peasants and town guards when i am defending, loyal townspeople coming out to defend their freedoms and liberty.
Is this possible? Can you mod the game to add units to your army during a siege so you can better defend the city? Does anyone care?
Opinions/Flames please.
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
Well the idea is pretty good, anyhow I think it possible with the show me how script. Ask richard about this
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
Good to see some positive votes, now i just have to hope a modder drops by and tells us how/shoots the idea down in flames

Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
I think this is still a bit ambigous, I think you should get more people depending on loyalty. Maybe 1 units of peasants for every 20% of loyalty above 120. In addition to this, you should get Tower bonuses for every 30% of loyalty above 100%.
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
It would be nice but only if the town really is loyal. OTOH, if it's a recently conquered city and the populace is still in unrest then they should instead turn against you and try to open the gates to the enemy. Especially if the invaders are of the same faction that used to hold the city before you.
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
While the concept of peasants and militia coming to my aid appeals to me, I am having a hard time losing my cities to the enemy as it is.

Yes, i was thinking that but i forgot to include it in my original post....it would probably be complicated to implement.
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
I know this can be done, but I am not good with scripting either. We need Epistolary Richard here to talk about this. He is an expert on the scripting stuff, and I think he can do it. Because the client kingdom he did a good job with it, by using the show me how script to trigger the unit for hire when the population is happy under your rule :charge:
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
Unless I am desperately in need of assistance the populace can hide in their homes while real warriors do the killing.
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
I've always thought it would be a good touch if militia and peasants from a settlement could come to the aid when the situation was dire. The public order rating and perhaps the culture bias in the settlement and general happiness across the empire would help determine whether the citizens would take arms and go to war, but only for when the city was directly assaulted. Afterwards, the militia would return to their homes and go back to kicking crap outside their streets.
I tried to recreate this a little by enabling militia and peasants to be built in 0 turns, allowing up to 9 units to be quickly raised in a turn. It's not ideal though, because then the AI starts to favour building such units itself for no real good reason whatsoever.

It's possible.....drools....
Re: City Defense - An idea/question/poll
I do not particularly care for this idea myself. Not becasue it is a bad concept, but because it is already covered with civil revolts. If anything, you could probably easily mod the game to allow for civil revolts to occur more easily.
Not a bad idea, though. Interesting.
