Senate Games

I've just been offered a senate mission with the reward being games at senates expense. I've had these before but what is the actual benefit of doing them apart from the lovely screen appearing?

Is it a temporary happiness bonus? Do they actually pay for the games at that city? Or is it a bonus to the popularity with the people or senate?

From memory it's a bonus to your popularity with the people.

Thanks, thought as it's for their expense they might pay for it as well!

They pay for a gladiator game at your least happy city.

This does not require an areana at that city and can be useful for keeping a troublesome city happy for a turn.

However, I never have trouble with maintaining happiness so find this to be the most useless type of Senate reward.
