hurrah for the holidays!

Today, I finally began my summer holidays, although it is raining, there is thick mist, and the temperature is about 10 degrees centigrade...

We were let off after a brief prayer from the local minister, and after singing the Harris Holiday song:

Hurrah for the heath clad mountains!
Hurrah for the linn's hoarse roar!
Hurrah for the bubbling fountain!
Hurrah for the sandy shore!
Hurrah for the sandy shore!

Sing we then comrades with heart and with voice
"Welcome, thrice welcome our bright holiday!
Nature is smiling, come let us rejoice!
Brooklets are murmuring Come, come away!"

Hurrah for the bickering burnie!
Hurrah for the shepherd's shiel!
Hurrah for the lonely lochan!
Hurrah for the rod and reel!
Hurrah for the rod and reel!

Sing we then comrades with heart and with voice
"Welcome, thrice welcome our bright holiday!
Flower bells are ringing, come let us rejoice!
Breezes are whispering Come, come away!"

Hurrah for the branchy thickets!
Hurrah for the broomy braes!
Hurrah for the cycle and wickets!
Hurrah for the holidays!
Hurrah for the holidays!

Sing we then comrades with heart and with voice
"Welcome, thrice welcome our bright holiday!
Sunbeams are dancing, come let us rejoice!
Laverocks and carolling Come come away!"

I should point out that the tune to the song does not fit the words to the song, which was written about 200 years ago when my school was founded.

My house (Birnam) won the Junior House Shield, but failed to win the House championship...

Almost, except it is only a fine rain today, not the heavy, torrential rain of yesteryears -- globa warming for you...

One more day then for 2 weeks i hav work experience. Then the holidays will arrive yay.

Got that feeling here too.

I've heard that Romania gets something like 2 and a half months off. And the English government wanted to make our summer holidays shorter?! Shorter?! It's already too short!

In Greece schools are out for holidays from June 15th to September 10th. 12 full weeks!

pfft 12 weeks. I was on vacation for 12 months after I graduated HS (best thing I ever did) and sadly now I am working and getting ready for the leap into college in 6 months.

Well I guess you got longer school days in Greece. I go to school something like 6 hours a day and get 8 weeks of summer vacation :sunny:

Allow me to doubt. Although I have finished school some years ago ( ~;) ), I think we have 32 hours attendance per week. :sunny:

I have vacation here now too , just finished my last day at school.

now I get 12 weeks of well deserved vacation !

31.25 hours of school per week (just over 6 hours per day) and only 6 crappy weeks.. I hate the English education system.

here, here, 6 weeks is hardly enough... My cousins over in the Irish Republic get from the end of May until the start of September off...

My last exam yesterday and it went very well, definitely going to get grades for uni so I now have a few months of easy time, relaxation before uni at the end of Sept. Ahhhhh.

Been a hard year but this feels good.

Feel sorry for you my english school fellows :no:
When I was in Germany, as a little boy, I remember I had only 6 or 7 holiday weeks. I felt sooo jealousy of my cousins here in Greece!! :bigcry:

Dutch system is so much better , 32.0 hours a week and twice as muych vacation ~;)

But there gotta be a difference somewhere ~:confused:

Totally I have something like 190 school days and 12/13 weeks of vacation, how about that? :dizzy2:

175-180 school days and a total of 16 week of vacation (12 in summer, 2 in christmas and 2 in easter) :balloon2:

God knows how many school days I have, but about 12 full weeks of holidays (6 summer, 2 april (at one point called easter holidays, but now april holidays), 2 christmas, 2 october (most other places get 1 week half-term, but we have a tattie-picking tradition, which means that we get an extra week off and a full blown holiday), and about 3-4 weeks worth of individual days off (for bank holidays like Victoria day, May day, et cetera, and in service days, when only teachers go into school for training)
