In my local paper of my Canadian residence, we had "The Top 25 or so Things to be proud of as a Canadian".
#1 was Smarites
#10 was our beer advertisements kick ass
#18 was our civil war was fought in a bar and only lasted an hour
But my favorite was #15.......

We gave them a parliament to call their own in 1867, and made them a dominion, which they remain this day.Quote:

Like the USA, Canada used to be a collection of little colonies, but after the US civil war, they decied to unite to form a country (more or less so they wouldn't be annexed by the US). Of course, they were mostly Brits, so instead of rebelling against Britain they just politely asked the queen for permission to be given their own parliament.
Brilliant.Quote:

Just think...no guns, free healthcare...and 'uncle' Tony as your leader ~
don't be stupid, they already have Tony as their leader, remember they're not quite a country yet...
Alas, until our Indian and Pakistani immigrant populations increase drastically, I fear we shall not be able to beat those blasted English at cricket. But we're working on it...Quote:

Reading Wikipedia , I bumped into this -
Despite Canada's ambivalent relationship with the United States, Canadians often remain very interested in how Canadians are portrayed in American pop culture and elsewhere. An episode of The Simpsons in which the family travelled to Toronto (for the last 10 minutes) was one of the most-watched TV programs in Canadian history.
