CTD when any animated picture comes up! Help

I am getting CTD everytime an animated picture comes up in the strategic map. For example, whenever I exterminate populace or a faction is destroyed, a nice animation used to come. But ever since I wiped my hard disk clean and reloaded RTW, these CTDs come. They are a big annoyance as if I am not careful and left click any of those portraits, the game crashes. This is especially so after I have won a battle. By the way, I dont have the patch. I do have directx 9.0c. If anyone got any solutions, please help!

Sapi, this problem has come up only after I reinstalled the windows. Before that there was no such problem. And the drivers are just the same as before. I don't have SP2 by the way.

No, I am not playing the senate, plus this problem only started when I reinstalled XP and RTW. I guess I am missing some program like Quicktime player or God knows what. Anyway, I have now learned to adjust with it. But it is just that I will never win in this game 'officially' ever again. The winning animation always crashes the game. Thanks for your time.

lol, don't give up so quickly! I'm sure someone in the other forums can help.

Try the re-install of windows media player. It sounds like the codec is having issues as it's only on videos. If I remember correctly I had the same issue myself, a new reinstall of WMP worked.
