Indonesian President on the family....
In an attempt to get support from NU and Muyahidin, the Indonesian president has become more reactionary in his moral. Thought it should be posted here with so many family threads lately.....
Susilo urges people to oppose unmarried couples who live together
JAKARTA (Agencies): President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked the people to uphold the marriage principle and to oppose unmarried couples who live together.
Susilo described the practice of unmarred couples living together as "disgraceful".
"Living together out of wedlock is still viewed as adisgraceful act that goes against the norms of religions and laws," Susilo said at a ceremony to commemorate National Family Day in Jakarta on Sunday.
"I am of the opinion that we should safeguard and maintain the principles and values of families forever. We do not need to imitate the lifestyles of foreign nations, which are incompatible with the soul and characteristics of our nation," he said. (*)
Re: Indonesian President on the family....
living together out of wedlock is unlawful? an honest question.
and what is meant by "oppose unmarried couples"? encourage them to get married, or separate or something?
Re: Indonesian President on the family....
According to Indonesian law, sex outside the marriage is illegal and can give you up to 2 years in prison. There are no documented cases where somebody been convicted the last 30 years, but the law is still there.
Oppose unmarried couples means that the local village chief should not allow them to live together. Indonesia has a system of village chiefs with rather large power on the people in the neighbourhood.
Re: Indonesian President on the family....
Anyone with the name Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gets my vote.
Especially when people love to miss-pronounce Bambang as Bang-Bang.
All hail president Bang-Bang! Bet Dubya is jealous, that's no where near as cool a nickname.
Re: Indonesian President on the family....
Yeah, I supported him totally during the election, Bang Bang was just soo damn cool.
Re: Indonesian President on the family....
Now there's an imposition of morality if ever I saw one.
