G8 protester block roads
Well, my noble brethren of the Org, the G8 is upon us, and as one of the closest members to the summit, I can report on what the protesters have done this year.
So far, all trains going through Stirling have been stopped, so all East-West rail traffic has been stopped.
The road from Edinburgh to Perth, the M9/A9, has also been blocked, so there is very little North-South traffic.
Unfortunately, I am now stuck in Dundee. Admittedly, I could go to Fife, or Aberdeen, but they are not terribly nice places...
All of Tayside Police have gone to other places, so Dundee is devoid of police, except for a mere skeleton force, which doesn't do much. There are no police on the beat, but thankfully, the neds are not clever enough to take advantage of the fact that there are very little police...
The march near the hotel was called off by the Police, but was started again at 12.40 because of protests near the Scottish Executive and Parliament in Edinburgh...
Hopefully there shall be a few nice riots to watch on the news the night...

Re: G8 protester block roads
Hopefully no riots near you..... pack some food and water and be prepared to flee if the rioters come near you.
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
I live just a few miles from the airport they are arriving at. Haven't seen Air Force One come in yet
A heck of a lot of helicopter gunships ~:)

Re: G8 protester block roads
what's wrong with Aberdeen and Fife?
I'd like to be there to see the massive security operations.

Re: G8 protester block roads
They are coming in at Prestwick, isn't it? I heard that the U.S. Marines are coming to guard the aeroport. If they are, then you better be careful they don't shoot you, their aim, and ability to distinguish friend and foe are not terribly good...

Re: G8 protester block roads
The US marines is one of the greatest fighting forces in the world wether you are a cook or in the infantry you WILL be trained to be a great rifle man. In the marines no matter what you do you Are a rifle man first.
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
Send the marines north to Stirling and sort out the rioters - they were preventing injured police from receiving treatment at the hospital in the city.

Re: G8 protester block roads
we got numbers behind us :charge:
I will shut up now cause i dont want this to go off topic

Re: G8 protester block roads
Do the majority of these people even know what they're protesting? The knuckleheads that are getting all the media coverage seem to be more interested in breaking stuff or assaulting people than actually accomplishing anything meaningful.
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
I think that they are just anarchists, protesting against government. I can't say anarchy is very appealling -- look at Somalia
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
Ahem - Somalia does not have anarchy. Somalia has quite the opposite.
Anarchy means without leaders, not without order. Somalia has lots of leaders - all kicking seven cans of sh*t out of each other with no order.

The media prefer to write stories about a good scrap.
A small number of protesters enjoy a good scrap, a small number of the police will be up for it too. The vast majority are more interested in making a political point than smashing a few car windows.

Re: G8 protester block roads
Well stay safe Malcom. Most protestors usually aren't intrested in fighting, it's the nutters that do that cause the problems. That said, I don't know much about anarchist and anti globlistation protestors in genera, or even their political views.
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
do you have a water cannon in scotland? i like watching the protesters get hosed down, however, the g8 anarchists have nothing on the south korean students when it comes to breaking police lines :)

Ah this one is just to easy Idaho - someone needs to check their defination of anarchy. The word has two meanings one is about order and one is about leaders. Somalia actually fits the describtion of anarchy very well.
Quote:
1 a : absence of government b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
2 a : absence or denial of any authority or established order b : absence of order
Does Somalia have a working government that is in control of the country and who's authority is the rule of the land?

I have to agree. Peaceful protest/civil disobedience in support of a cause are always to be respected.
Rioting, on the other hand, should be put down with maximum speed and violence before innocent folks get hurt.
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
It was getting a bit rough near the hotel - chinook loads of riot troops had to be flown in as the rioters managed to bring down part of the security fence.

I understood it to be a joke about American friendly fire.

Re: G8 protester block roads
German sheperds? Surely there are better ways, that wouldn't put innocent animals and possibely innocent people in jeoprady...
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
If it gets to out of hand call in the tear gas :charge:
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
I wouldnt worry too much about the Shephards.. they love that sort of thing.(The ripping and tearing of anarchist flesh, that is. ~D )

War elephants. I bet that'd break up a riot right quick. ~D

Re: G8 protester block roads
The german shepherds were in action earlier today, not sure if they let them loose. Its funny when the losers taunt the police and then they get some teeth marks ~:)
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
Um, I'd just like to say it's not always entirely the protestors fault, but it sort of seems like it in this case.
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
Im not against the anti-poverty protesters in anyway. Its the anarchists who - are there for no other reason than to cause trouble - that need sorting out.

Wasn't there something in the news some time ago where an Italian hostage who had been released by terrorists in Iraq was shot on the way to the airport by marines?
-
Re: G8 protester block roads
Yeah cause the car didn't stop at a marine checkpoint. The marines have to protect themselves you know. Its a war and in war its them or us. They had no ideal she was in that car, their was no heads up on the situation. So..... they picked themselves over a potential terriorist. Would you not do the same?
But anyways this is completely off topic.
