who in history had the worst death?
i would say edward the 2nd if what i have read is true.or william wallace(and no im not saying that because of the movie,it was way worse than that,something along the lines of being castrated and dragged miles over cobblestones etc. you get the picture)

also i heard a tiny bit about a bzyantine emperor,i want to say alexis something but i think thats wrong,he supposedly died the gruesomest death a monarch had died up to that time.he was emperor after manuel i think(more than one manuel?manuel comnemus?

The emperor after Manuel I Comnenus was his young son, Alexius II Comnenus (1180-82). He was strangled by Andronicus's friends. Andronicus then beacme emperor (Andronicus I Comnenus),


Back on topic: the leaders of peasent rebellions usually suffered terrible deaths. Also, in 13th century one French nobleman (I think Thomas de Coucy) hanged his captured oponents for their balls ~:eek: ~:eek: ~:eek: ~:eek: ~:eek: and let them bleed.

You would have to go some to suffer a worse fate than Marc Antony Bragodino, who commanded Famagusta under seige from the turks in 1570-71. Despite agreeing surrender terms that included safe passage, he was captured by the turks, severely beaten, had his ears and nose cut off, and was paraded in front of the troops. He was then give two weeks to regain his strength in prison, before being slowly skinned alive, not dying until he was skinned down to his waist.

After that his skin was stuffed and put on display in Istanbul, but I suppose by then he was past caring.

That said, a bog standard crucifixion doesn't seem to have been a bundle of laughs.

i gues there are way more people that died gruesome deaths, but we dont know of m. i dont like to be a astronaut lost in space, just doing nothing for then hours dragged around by nothing knowing you'll die in 10 hours and there is nothing you can do till you sufficate. now thats gruesome, mentally

I don't really know who had the worst death. However their is such a way I would not like to die but I'm not quite sure which period it is from or who invented it etc.
It is as follows: the victim is placed inside of a barrel. All around the inside of the barrel are spikes which do not touch the person inside initially. The vicitim is then sealed inside and the barrel is rolled down a hill. The result... :skull:

I'm probably not remembering it exactly, but one punishment I remember from the medieval period was to be thrown into a sack with a rabid dog, a monkey and a poisonous snake, and then the sack would be beaten with staves until it stopped moving.

taurus the nazi's did that to 8 dutch resistance fighters that had blown up a train. they hid well in the swamp but the nazi's threathened to wipe out their village (not all but 4 were from that village) from existing (like in poland) if they didnt come out. so they came. the nazi's pushed them in a barrel with barbed wire and rolled it till they were dead

A nasty death was the commander of the garrison of Drogheda, Arthur Aston being beaten to death with his own wooden leg by the troops of Oliver Cromwell.

I also read about a ruler( i believe it was somewhere in India) that he had a brother crushed to death in a giant pestle and mortar so no blood touched the earth.

So far DnC has found the worst case.

I have another one. In itself the sentence wasn't too bad (relative to the others we have seen here), the man was supposed to be drawn.

But they simply couln't kill him that way, and since the sentence was for execution by drawing they began to cut his muscles and tendons. Afte many attempts the poor bugger was still alive with basically all his major muscles cut and nearly all joint-tendons cut as well. Finally he died from bloodloss or pain (it is from France right before the Revolution so details in that kind is rather lacking while the details in what they did is very deep). I think the executioner was punished heavily for this, not because he had tortured the man beyond all reason but because the man didn't die from the drawing.

Ohh man... That has got to be one of the most humiliating deaths!!! It is funny yet so horrible. Well done Cromwell, you found the magic line between perverse and humiliating. Man I have to sit and hold my mouth not to laugh at it, and it is horrible to feel like that.

Oh I have another one... Not the worst but certainly not among the more friendly deaths.

The Mongols after their victory at Khalka River, took the leaders of he captured Kievans, bound them together, lay them down on the ground, then lay heavy planks on top of them, so they could only barely breathe. Then in a disgusting move the Mongols commanders had a victoryfeast on the planks, eating all kinds of foods, even captured Russian foods they waved in front of the very slowly dying Russian leaders. At one point a man was supposedly still alive and the Mongol commanders had finished their feast. Angry at the man had the nerve survive they began to jump on the planks until he finally died.

I read it from a certain website, but not sure if it is historically correct. It says that when the spanish first entered an aztec temple they saw piles of flayed skin and skinless bodies there that made the commander vomit from the gruesomness of the scene, since human sacrifice to the gods was common practice among the aztecs alot of slaves/peasants were sent into the temple to be flayed.

I've always thought Perillus of Athens's brazen bull invention for Phalaris, the tyrant of Agrigentum, was a rather cruel way to die. Perillus got to find out; since Phalaris put him in it first to test it out.

Actually they did it to captive warriors. In fact teh Aztecs kept a neigbouring state alive and free only to make sure they had a ready source of captives. When they began to run out of 'sacrificial lambs', they declared war on that state, had a lopsided battle and went home with captives.
Cynical!

But they did die very fast, and it was a great honour.
They were killed by having the heart cut out in less than 20 seconds (which has since been reproduced on dummies).

I remember reading about the Romans doing this. I think it was Livy, but anyway it was with a chicken, a dog, a monkey and a snake and the sack was thrown into the sea. I think it was a death reserved for politicians who were bought off or some other corruption type crime.

Oh, I just remembered another medieval one: the death of Hugh Despenser in the early 14th century. As part of his execution, they cut off his genitals... and then burned them to ash before his very eyes.

It always makes me wonder where they got the balls to do that. ~;)
