Syria TW, a large map of the near east

This is a map I have been working on for the better part of a month, or maybe more. I cut it down to include Crimea, Thracia, Asia Minor, Armenia, Babylon, and Egypt. It goes as far West as the edge of Asia Minor to the eastern regions of Susa. It is rescaled back up to a bit bigger than the regular size settings.

This map is to be focused on the wars between the mighty Seleucid and Ptolemaic kingdoms. With squabling petty kingdoms surrounding the larger, more powerful kingdoms. There will be oportunities to land grab everywhere. This is far more indepth in this region than any other map.

You will be able to fight for the more dense and populated lands of western Asia Minor, the Nile Basin, the Levant, and even the Thracian coast. You will experience a whole new dimention to the geography of the region. The topography will be far more realistic and detailed.

This map will have a twist. I will be including Pergemon, Bosphoria, Kingdom of Tylis, and Galatia. Each with a unique unit list and skins. These factions are still debatable, but are close to being set in stone.

This is all, WIP. Once I finish the map, Wes agreed to help with units and code in the factions. While Xanthippus of Sparta and driddle help with unit descriptions. I owe them a lot. Shouldnt take too much time. I dont know exactly how long though. A great thanks goes to Atilla Reloaded for allowing me to use his Galatia faction units.

Very interesting, good luck with it. But I thik you should try to slpit up the really big provinces a little.

Seleucos, great to see you over here. Your mapping is famous, of course :grin: but I know people will be interested to hear of your plans for units for these new factions.

Dont worry about that massive negative income on the cities. Recourses and financials have not been worked with yet.

ER, yes I can. These are very rough lists compiled by Xanthippus. Here are some of the planned units for Pergemon:
Ekdromos-Light Spearman, known as the “Outrunner Hoplites”. They were extremely flexible and also common in the Seleucid armies. They were armed with a 9-foot long Spear and a Theuros, but wore no body armor other than an “Eastern Thracian” helmet that all or most of the Hellenistic troops should have. Most Pergamene infantry would probably be these men, as I do not believe that the Phalanx was popular with them….they preferred to use Galatians mercs as heavy infantrymen, most of the time.


Pergamon should have some kind of Prodromoi-type light cavalry. This is a good example…note that he carries a Theuros shield like most Pergamene troops.

Hetarioi/Xystophoroi (use whichever name you prefer) -Pergamene Hetarioi were arguably the finest of all the “Companion” type cavalry fielded by the Successors. Note the frontal horse armor, known as a “Parapleuridion” to the Greeks. I also have a pic shown in “Warfare in the classical world” where the rider has no shield but wears a mask-type helmet (like the Seleucid Agema in RTR)

AoR troops should include skirmishers and Galatian warbands, and Greek Mercenaries (like Cretan Archers) should be readily available.

Bosphorans

Thuerophoroi: (should be the best available to any faction….the best armor anyway)


Kontophoros Hippikon: “Kontos bearing Cavalry”-Heavy Cavalry, with a rider wearing chain mail armor wielding the Kontos spear.

One problem. I dont have any people available who can skin. I have permission from Atilla Reloaded to use the entire Galatian faction units from Successors TW. But that is all I have. If anyone is willing to help, that would be extremely great.

Update: I have decided to add the Bithynians.

I love provincial campaigns, and this one seems to be off to a good start. Keep up the good work.
