Sensitivity or stupidity?
Heard on the news this morning that some radio stations in Canada have pulled the song "New Orleans is Sinking" by The Tragically Hip from their playlists. I think this is pure crap. Not only is it an excellent song, but it's also about 15 years old and clearly is not about New Orleans literally being flooded.
I guess they should stop playing "Rock You Like a Hurricane" as well...
Idiocy...

They did something similar here in Germany after the Tsunami when a song with the (translated) title "The perfect wave" was taken off air.
I would generally consider this to be excessive PC, however, I can understand that nobody wants to deal with potential accusations of being a completely insensitive klutz.
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
Its just not in good taste to play a song with that title while people are dying in New Orleans do to flooding.
You'll get your song back in a few weeks - Im sure youll survive without it. If not, buy the CD. ~;)
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
just dumb...
it´s like after 9/11 the new copies of the first offspring album don´t have the song "kill the president" on it....moronic PC idiots...*picks up his original copy and cranks the song up to 10*
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
After 9/11 the Spiderman movie was edited to not have a twin towers scene.
The radio stations could just not play the song rather than making an announcement that they won’t be playing it. A little more tact and no one would have even noticed.
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
And I thought Canadians had sense.
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
Its a question of taste and respect. No reason to be offensive if you can avoid it.

I dont have to type ~
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
Since I laughed a little, it was probably tasteless. But, the song didn't kill anybody and making light of a situation doesn't hurt anyone except the emotionally labile, so I gotta go with BFD on this.
It's rude and crass and uncalled for but there's bigger fish to fry at the moment.
Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
This always happen after catastrophe.
The example here mentioned may be less silly than some other :balloon2:

Re: Sensitivity or stupidity?
Ask yourselves, is it possible that someone who has lost their home or a relative might be upset if they heard the song in the next few weeks? I guess yes, so its sensible not to play it.
Of course last time I looked Canada and New Orleans were a long way apart, but who knows where people have relatives these days.
