Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
As far as I'm aware there's no settlement editor for RTW. Adherbal has made a Wall Editor. Can you tell us more about this?

Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
Signifier_one has found a way to alter the terrain in cities, and is trying to create an historically accurate Rome during the republican period, with the seven hills and so on. However, I can't imagine EB doing something like this, because according to Signifier_one there is an unbelievably massive amount of work. And EB have more important things to be getting on with ~:)
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
hmmmmm. looks like a couple of you EB Sleuths were already perusing this side of the district.
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
SignifierOne's project is extremely impressive and I've been following it since he first announced it. However, as I understand it the method does not allow a dynamic city - ie, one that develops and expands - the city is fixed for the entire game. This makes it ideal for new historical battles and mods over a short time period but not for mods that want to cover the length of time that EB does.
Plus, as eadingas says, it's an awful amount of work and you need to have a modelling programme to do it. So... one day, but not at the moment.
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
Just to reiterate what has been said, this would be a dream for us, however we won't be attempting it until someone creates an actual settlement editor for it.
Until then, our cities will remain the same, alas.

Since city seiges are integral to the game, I can't imagine what is more important?
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
I pretty much figured that change was not a user-friendly process.
As for the static state of these cities, would it not be most effective for the some of the greatest ancient cities? Rome, and Athens, perhaps Babylon or Alexandria...
It sure would be amazing to implement these cities. After all, these were the capitals of the greatest and most long-lived cultures of the day. It would also add TONS of character to the existing seige battles if just a few settlements were unique like this.
And they needn't be huge sprawling metropolises. Perhaps some of the more humble factions could also have there "great" city, although this would, of course, be to a lesser extent than Rome, Athens, et al.
For this reason, a static city, used infrequently for major historical points of interest, could be implemented with out affect to the rest of the system.
It would also "lighten the load" as far as effort is concerned...
If I knew how, I would help myself. But, unfortunately, I lack these skills.
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
But how would you do it in realistic scale? RTW can't handle cities on the scale in which they existed, at best you could get a very rough approximation, certainly not a good copy of the real locales. I agree it'd be nice for a couple of unique city plans to add variety, but this certainly shouldn't (and doesn't seem to be) a priority.

Rome changed a lot between 270 BC and 14 AD...it would work better for Alexandria or Carthage but even then it would be quite sketchy.
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
Wait, why exactly would they be static?
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
If you use Sig_One's method to create unique cities the cities are static and don't change during the game.
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
If someone makes a settlement editor, we will be overjoyed and love you forever. Until then, we won't be changing cities.

Yes, I understand that, but why?
I'm asking in the wrong forum...
Re: Map/City Editor/Changes
Looks like the bottom line is this: settlement editor. Period.
Gotcha khelvan. Thanks.
