phalanxes
Phalaxes are one of the two most effective way to rout a group of elephants. Simply keep 2-3 phalanxed units very close to eachoter and march them at the charging elephants. this of course gets harder the more advanced the elephants get because of their ability to carry archers.but when attacked promptly they will die fairly easily.then they will start to rout. A rush of cavalry then will scare them and cause them to run amok.
An army with lots of elephants is best delt with by using 5-6 strong phalanx units, 3-4 archer units, 2-4 onagers or other artilllary units a good genral, and some fast moving missile cavalry. :charge:
