Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
Well the title pretty much says it all. Does anyone obey the speed limit. I know where I live if you do someone will probably shoot you. The spped limit on the Long Island Expressway, what a joke more like the LI parking lot at rush hour, is 55 yet if you go under 60-65 your gonna get nasty looks and lots of horns and lights. Everyone does 40 in a 30 .

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I nearly obey.
It is for taking care of security of self and others, and for not risking not so necessary spending on fines. ~:)
The extra time spending is very small most times. ~
It is cheaper way to take care of security of self to drive careful than have huge SUV to drive quick.
almost relevant:
Colleague of mine, he getting all wild in eyes when I say I use cannabis. I say "why a problem to you"? He say "It is not legal :furious3: ". Even threaten to report me to police :dizzy2:
He get caught several time speeding, which is not legal. I never yet caught doing nothing ~D

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
Usually. I have pretty bad road rage, though...
Bartix, from what country are you?
-
Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I generally do in a car, except on motorways, where in the UK the official limit is 70 (mph) but everyone does at least 80 minimum.
I find I get huge road rage if I try to beat prat drivers in London at their own game, and its much calmer just to do the limit, not weave from lane to lane in the hope of getting ahead, and so on. Usually you find the tit in the Audi TT who howled past at 50 in the tightest of gaps (usually talking on his mobile) is stuck at the next lights anyway.
On the motorbike its a different tale...

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I usually do the limit- and I get incredibly pissed off when people run up to my bumper, or pass me speeding. I have een known to slam on the brakes to get them to back off, or yell at the passers- which must sound really wierd with Janis Joplin or Pink Floyd playing in the background. ("Geez... that's the angriest hippie I've ever seen.")

Very fast, but never rude or unsafe.

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
residential: usually obey.
weird country roads: usually obey.
motorways, main roads etc.: usually a little over.

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I respect the limits in residential streets. But as soon i get on the highway, i'm on the Fast Lane ~D
-
Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
i usually drive about 20 km/h faster then the speed limit allows.
-
Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I am usually about 2 mph slower than the limit. The only time I went over was an emergency 1000 mile trip from OK to NC. The limit then was 65 mph and we averaged 90 mph (including the stops).

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
Back in 1998 when I was in BC and Alberta, I was surprised that most people seemed to adhere to the limits. When I returned in 2003 I noticed a big change. It seems that modern living is all about speed. We are only here a short time so I prefer to take my time and enjoy things, life is stressful enough these days

I feel the same way. People are always so close to my bumper, or passing me on double lined roads. Damn people...

Just pedal really fast. If your calves don't blow out, you might exceed the speed limit going downhill in a 25 mph zone. (But way to work for your transportation- not like us lazy car users.)

Re : Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I obey, just to annoy people who don't.
-
Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I go 5 miles over on regular roads and 10-14 over on highways.
-
Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I always obey for the simple reason that I give enough of my money to the governmnet in taxes without giving them more for fines .
-
Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I always speed.. the speed limits around this area are ridiculous. Cops dont even make an attempt at obeying them.. ~D

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
I drive at a speed that is safe for the road I'm on. We have some converted farm road around here that are very important connecting roads and have speed limits of like 35 or 25 miles an hour. I average around 40 on all of them.
If I feel like there may be cops, I'll try and stay within 5 of the posted limit.
What really pisses me off is the people who DO obey those limits to the T, or who even do FIVE UNDER IN FRIKKIN 25 MPH ZONE. They even will slow to 15 or 20 miles an hour around a curve if that's what the "curve limit" is posted as. I have noticed that they are ALWAYS little old ladies in brand-new Buicks.
People who can never seem to go fast enough and tail-gate me piss me off, too. I tend to slam my breaks at them if they get too close, and make gestures and things like that.
In rural areas, though, I am in full agreement with speed limits. Forty-five or fifty MPH is about as fast as I care to go on curvy, hilly roads, and I have learned that if a "curve limit" says 20 MPH, that means it's hairpin with gravel and if you do even 25 you will die. Those are the kind of no-BS speed limits I like. Of course the hick locals never seem to think I'm going fast enough... ~;p

These be good generalised rules to go by
Although empty wierd country roads can be fun at speed!!
On a British main road (speed limit 60 mph) I am quite happy to sit behind someone doing 50-60, but get annoyed with those doing less than this and feel the need to overtake them.

Re: Do you always obey the speed limit or do you never obey the speed limit?
Nobody around: Obey.
Residential areas: Obey.
Freeways: Match the speed of the other drivers, which is usually 10+ mph over the limit.
