Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Which, if any, of the following next generation consoles will you buy, were you capable of purchasing only one, or alternatively, in what order would you buy 'em? Revolution for me; its the only one offering such a huge back-catalogue and, above all, a brand new, versatile control scheme ~:) . See here for details - http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-15143-2567-x-x-x .
Here are the Wikipedia pages for each console -
Xbox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360
PS3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3
Revolution http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Revolution
What do others think? Give reasons if you wish!

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
none of them, I'll buy myself a new pc (or mac if I can afford it) instead.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Playstation 3 all the way.....it has the best games (90% of nintendo games are designed for little kiddies in my opinion) and i´m sure as hell not going for a microsoft product unless i can´t help it.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
I only have on ething to say: PCs rule.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
revolution looks most interesting, then probably the ps3.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Sjakihata & King Henry V- The general thought is that the consoles will die out, or else the line between console and PC will disappear, just look at the Xbox, its essentially a PC anyway.
Ronin - PS3 and Xbox do appear to have the most games dedicated to an older audience... but I think Nintendo had some big horror games on the GC didn't they, though I agree they had nothing like Halo or Metal Gear Solid. I s'pose my view is, why play Xbox first-person shooters when the PC does them so much better?
dessa14 - The interesting thing to me, and the thing that has me firmly hooked on the Revolution, is the completely new control system.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
To be honest I'd rather just get a better PC ~

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
I'll probably get the Xbox2 (god 360 is such a stupid-ass name) when it comes out this November. Then maybe get the PS3 or the Revolution.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
If I'd buy any of them it would be the PS3, i probably won't because of my limited budget though.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
The revolution seems by far the most innovative, and it will probably have the best games. I've stuck with Nintendo so far, and I don't think that will change.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
I'd get 360. as for the Revolution, i don't care if the controller's innovative, it just looks and is retarded. And makes you look retarded, swinging your arms about trying to make it work.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
I'm going for the PS3. I don't get Microsoft consoles on principle, and Nintendo shall be a second choice.

Actually, the did get the first Metal Gear redone, and it was rather good.
For me the Nintendo Revolution, if any; it seems the only worthwhile console since the other two platforms have far too many similarities to the PC. It'd almost be like getting a second PC. Anyway, my budget isn't that great so it'll probably be none of the three.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
I think Nintendo still makes the best quality games. I mean, Resident Evil and Killer 7 aren't exactly "little kid" games, are they? Most Nintendo games are rated Teen. Revoloution for sure, but I want to use my Gamecube controller, which, according to Nintendo Power, I should be able to.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
If I was going to buy a console; wich I`m not, computers are the best; I would have bought PS3. Nintendo, I just don`t like it. Xbox have to wait just as long for games to arrive as PC`s, GTA being a good example.
-
Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
If i'm going to buy a console at all, it'll be the revolution. I've always been a console gamer (as opposed to pc gamer), but as someone already stated in this thread, consoles are becoming a lot like pcs anyway.
Atleast the revolution is doing something new.

I'd never buy an Xbox because almost every hit it has is ported to the PC a few months later and usually has better graphics and more features....

Don't forget Geist, Eternal Darkness (imo, the best console game in recent memory) or even Metriod Prime .
I'm an unabashed Nintendo fanboy, sure, they dropped the ball on the N64 and the Gamecube's release was handled poorly, but they're always on the cutting edge of innovation and their 1st/2nd party games are almost always top notch. I'll go with Nintendo because their exclusive titles won't ever be seen anywhere else. Other consoles seem to have comparatively few quality exclusive titles as most are available on all 3 systems and/or ported to PC.
I just hope the Revolution controller doesn't hurt it's 3rd party library, but time will tell. Personally, I think its quite promising.

Totally agreed. They'd have been better off using the original VA takes.
Oh, and the fps crapped out a few times during play.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Whichever is cheapest and has the best games.
Current gen I got an Xbox. Got most of the games anyway, best looking, best features.

The same applies to games, playing Mario does not make someone a 5 year old idiot. This does not mean you have to like everything, just be rational, polite and most importantly
give reasons. MTW sux0rs is not what we are looking for, MTW is not a good game because it is unnecessarily complex to learn and does not provide enough in-game information is fine. Obviously there will be disagreements in opinion but so long as they are kept civil there is no problem - I'll say it again this is not gamefaqs
On that note, I'd like to say I'll eventually get a PS3, since the PS2 games I have have yet to disappoint me.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
If I get one at all, it's likely to be the x-360. The revolution could be cool, but to be honest even after searching out all the must have titles, my cube is still pretty underutilized, and I'd rather avoid that a second time. Sony hardware has a bit of a reputation of breaking, especially early models, and their hardware doesn't get the western made games, and I've just lost my taste for most japanese genres.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Does anyone have set release dates for the three systems? I think the Xbox360 is coming out in December (on the biggest shopping day of the year), and I've heard a few release dates for the Revolution (November 2006 being the latest and March 2006 being the earliest). What about the PS3?
BDC - I think the Revolution is going to be cheapest and, like the GC, compared to its competitors it will be the least powerful system.
Mikeus Caesar - do you have any evidence to back up your claims of the Revolution's retardation? Also, if you read some of the initial reactions to the Revolution controller's demoes at the Tokyo Game Show, most of the reviewers say that the new system feels incredibly natural and does not require the same (exaggerated) movements seen in the promotional video.
In my opinion, Nintendo are the only company to have tried something new - the Direct Pointing Device - and for that, they get my money. Another kicker, which the GC and N64 didn't have, was a 50 game launch platform and a game bundled with the system (Super Smash Bros. 3 in the case of the Revolution - I just hope you get two controller set-ups with the console!)
A thing that disappoints me about the PS3 and X360 is the lack of any original material, not only in terms of the control. Most of the games coming out for the PS3 and X360 seem to be either sequels (though I know that SSB 3 is a sequel) or ports of PC games - Call of Duty 2 on X360 for example.
The fact is, exclusive Nintendo games are always just that. Xbox games which made the same claim - Halo (originally developed for the PC anyway), and Knights of the Old Republic spring to mind - were quickly ported to the PC, and were generally better for it.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
None of the above. PC FOREVER!

What the smart man said.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Revolution is the only one that promises anything beyond prettier games. I do not care how good a game looks. Look at MTW vs RTW. So long as the gameplay is well done then I will enjoy it. You can play every game for the Xbox 360 or PS3 on an existing console. It just won't look as good.

Ah well. I enjoyed it; could be because I never played the original version, so I didn't know what was missing.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
i find it funny how only Sony is confident on the strength of the console brand names whereas the others have to scramble to change the name each time in hopes that "a snazzy new name will attract lots of buyers!" LOL
if i was gonna buy a console i'd go with Sony
but since any new console is going to be completely dead a few years later anyhow, i'll stick with the PC

Revoloution should have the cheapest games, with thier players choice series, which is always good.

Re: Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft
Navaros - I think Sony doesn't change the name either because they have no imagination or for stylistic reasons. Nintendo first two systems were of essentially the same name, the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super NES, and most game companies change the names of their systems to indicate a big shift in power, design or gameplay style (so I'm not really sure why Microsoft changed their's ~ ).
I think Nintendo's system is the biggest change of any of them, and the N64 and GC both increased over the predecessors by similar orders of magnitude. Microsoft has brought nothing to the table, Sony has brought Japan to the West and the West to Japan and Nintendo has brought a steady stream of innovations.
