Here's an interesting thought.
How about modding a general's death for Muslims to be a morale BONUS, since he was bravely martyred in the defense of Islam. I think it'd be pretty interesting. Morale boost but still lose the valour bonus from his command rank. Any of this remotely possible? Am I the only one who thinks this would rule?
Thinking about this further, it would've been great to have a "Fanatic" attribute like "Elite" and "Disciplined" where instead of being indifferent to routers and deaths, it'd BUMP morale when people were routed or suffered heavy losses.

Interesting idea. Although you can easily mod every unit to be elite, I think there is no way you can mod units to get morale bonus when general dies.

Actually I think that would be rather unrealistic. People reacted very similarly (regardless of religion, culture or race) to the death of the general - that is the elimination of the mastermind behind the battle tactics, the killing of the presumably best and most protected unit on the battlefield: with fear and desperation.

It would also be rather fun, though. I think peasants and regular troops would become fearful when the general dies or are suffering heavy losses, but I think it would probably intensify the fervor of mosque troops.

"He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day", as the saying goes.
The corollary of which is "He who fights to the death runs out of troops and has what's left of their empire overrun with ease".
I think it would be somewhat entertaining to have Shogun-like troop mentality where they will fight on with ever greater vigour until they're either all dead, or they've driven you off the field.
On the other hand, I think the AI would stuff up badly with this effect in place. You'd more than likely win the battles, albeit with heavier casualties but your survivors will have racked up helpful amounts of valour from all the slaughter. Subsequent battles will just be more of a bloodbath and even more in your favour.
So I'm saying it will actually work against the AI's interests, if it controls the Muslim factions. If you manage to make it work, by all means try it but play as the Muslims and see what it's like when your troops are simply uncontrollable.
Under 'impetuous' morale conditions (very high morale), you may find the 'stop' icon greys out - this happens to me frequently - so a unit goes off, chasing after the tiny remnants of a unit which is no longer battle-threatening. Switching it to attack the nearby target you'd rather match yours against can't be done anymore, until their chase is completed, by which time they'll be too far away and too tired to achieve what you had in mind. Basically, the internal AI for unit captains sometimes takes over in terms of target choices and, as a general, you aren't in full command... your troops are now as dumb as the AI opposition's are. :embarassed:

When units charge without orders I dont hit stop, I keep clicking the spot I want them to be over and over again.

Besides the point made in the 3nd post, mastermind gone (units should get a bonus when the general is participating in actual combat), it also leaves just a clear destination for the younger generals...certain death to give a morale boost...

Christian crusaders expected to go straight to heaven when they were killed too. Celebrating a dead comrade going into heaven is an attempt to lessen the impact of an actual incurred loss. People are still human regardless of their religion afterall (as far as I've experienced).

^ Yeah. There's another idea, restrict it to crusades and jihads. If only this were possible, it's fun to imagine though :)
