Are these the actions of civilized people? The Chechans would line in the paths of tanks, looking unarmed. Not wanting to massacre civilians (worst mistake in Russian history), Russian tank commanders opened the hatches to ask them to move. They molotov cocktailed the tanks, wiping out over three armored columns.
Now, Chechnan rebels bomb apartment complexes, destroy schools, and hold entire theaters hostage. Real civilized. And real deserving of mercy. :stars:

OK - could we please quit these rather unpleasant exchanges and get back to topic - and the detour on the history to the Chechnya conflict is only marginally related to the original topic, the only important issue is that the Beslan attacks were linked to the Chechnya conflict and are completey unrelated to the Iraq invasion and what stance Russia has taken with regard to Iraq.

Which is why it is strange that Bush links it to the war on Al-Qaida .
Sufism is widely condemned by the Wahabbis so why would they be linked ?
The Chechens declared the creation of a Secular state , so where is the fundamentalist empire ?

The Russians have been trying to 'pacify' that particular corner of the world for centuries, on and off. I'd say the hatred runs quite deep on both sides by now. And I take it you are familiar with the fighting between the rebels and the fundamentalists as well , they are pretty well documented .
