Unable to play as all factions in 1.3

Having installed BI, I tried to start an R:TW 1.3 campaign as Armenia. I edited descr_strat.txt to make Armenia playable, and it shows up on the faction selection screen, but when I click on it I get a CTD. This also happens with Thrace, Numidia and Scythia, all factions I've played with before 1.3.

At first I thought it might be due to some modifications I've made to descr_strat.txt and export_descr_unit.txt, but restoring backups of these didn't help. (Obviously I had to modify the descr_strat backup to make Armenia playable, but other than that they were untouched).

It doesn't seem to be a problem with the factions themselves, as these all function perfectly well under AI control when I launch a campaign as another faction. It happens immediately I click on their icons on the faction selection screen, which made me think it might be something to do with not being able to display a map/leader pic/description for the faction.

Does anyone else have this problem? Or do I need a re-install? :help:

There's other posts around about this subject. IIRC, it's something about you need to modify multiple files now, to unlock factions.

Yeah, have that problem too.

Some factions like Macedon and Germania can be unlocked the usual way; others like Dacia, Armenia just cause a CTD.

Problem solved, I should have looked in the modding forum. Anyway for anyone else who's stuck, what you do is not only make them playable in descr_strat but also insert a description into Rome - Total War\Data\Text\campaign_descriptions.txt. For example:

{IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN_ARMENIA_TITLE}Armenians
{IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN_ARMENIA_DESCR}Armenia is a nice place.

This seems to do the trick. Actually I did try it before starting this thread, but it didn't work because I spelt Armenia wrong - d'oh!

Someone got all the factions that u can play as in 1.3 and bi (except the emerging factions) and its a page or 2 back. Theres a topic bout playable factions and inside is a link to the download auto install fix.
