Forming a specific number of ranks

Can someone tell me how to shorten my group of hastati, like from the wide rectangle to like only six soldiers wide, before a battle so that I can more easily fit them through a gate.

I think this was asked here before but I don't have user permission to search such things. I can't even search my own posts.:embarassed:

Left-click (select) the unit.

Then right-click, as if you were deploying them in a certain area or teling them to attack, but hold the button. The drag to the right and you should be able to set how deep you want your unit. This works for all units, and is also good for making sure your formation has no holes (you can close the gap).
