Jerome, "still existing VERTEX_BUFFER error"?

Jerome, Myself and few others are getting these Errors with some of our skins or models. I have no idea what these errors mean, but since I am not the only one getting them now I thought I would post to ask. It is a wierd error that seems to happen only with 1.3 or BI, our models and skins had no such error in 1.2

Anyway, if you could shed some light on this thanks. So far we all making progress on all the issues, just a very slow pace. :bow:

I've also encountered this error message when adding ferres models & skins. However after rechecking the DMB file i found that i'd made a mistake with my new entry. I fixed the error in the DMB and the vertex issue was resolved. I doubt this will help you, but that was how i resovled the issue.

Maybe if you post the DMB & EDU entries and the actual files i could see if i could replicate the error...BTW is it a legion unit your trying to add?

Well mine where in a Working DMB for 1.2 and only now do that in RTW 1.3 I have added a couple units so far Using the 1.3 DMB, But that means I have to add all in one line at a time and really the 1.2 should port right over, there seems to be some issues with 1.2 stuff not working in 1.3 and its a little excessive really. I can see the descr_start file etc, but our DMB and units file shouldnt especially when there are no syntax errors mentioned.

I just dont feel 1.3 is worth the effort to port over, BI MIGHT be IF some issues are resolved. Namely the -mod switch, Pilum AI firing, 1st cohort naming, Maps to work without having to use some fan made converter, not everyone uses the Java program he recommends, better 1.2 compatibility. I guess thats it really for me, but its enough to stop me from even working on it. Right now I removed BI to save room for other work, but if a patch resolves the issues without creating new serious ones, then I have no problem starting over to utilize the new features.

P.S. No it was a custom SPQR unit, but I had the crashes with the Roman units also most are ferres models and skins. My DMB is totally useless in 1.3 or BI, the amount of extra work for NO reason is what is turning me off with BI, I mean I have a very fun and enjoyable mod on 1.2 that has very little issues. But BI is better for a Republic mod. And that was my next project after SPQR, but with all these issues, I dont know. I really dont like the way the added the legion naming, and pilum bug is serious IMO, but more important is the -mod, I dont like overwriting the stock files with BI especially the WAYits done since its an addon in itself. I tinkered, and see I will have to recreate the map from scratch, but I prefer to port as much as possible to BI from 1.2 and it seems we cant unless by hand. I alreadt had my republic map made since several months ago, but now its useless, because of it not working in BI.

Well so far B.I has been a good experience for me. I've been able to port over a lot the FRRE content, that includes our map and units, even custom (modified) skins i've made with great success. B.I has far to much value for the FRRE project that i can't see us reverting to 1.2 unless we come across a serious problem. I suppose the major niggle at the moment is the -mod switch capability, but it's not a showstopper IMO. We plan to have legion system that was tested in 1.2 and should work just as well in B.I. I guess we always expected that B.I would be a lot of work to port over to, but progress is going well and community as always are working hard to find out how B.I works. ~:)

whenever I encountered this error it was followed by a warning that the lowest LOD distance value was not set to "max". Fixing those mistakes solved all the problems for me.

I've gotten some weird errors on my DMB file. Like a missing cas file which wasnt from my mod. lol So I figure if I redo all the entries by hand it should work as I added a model with no problem "IF" I did so using the 1.3 DMB file.

I am hoping Cata that CA will fix the Legion numbering system to have it track ALL the 1st cohorts for the player and number them consecutively. Otherwise Like you I will Port over SPQRs naming convention, but I STILL think it would have been neat to have province based naming.

So you got the Cmapign map from TFT to work in BI? Anything edited in paticular? Reason I asked is my map doesnt seem to work or is it that hgt file or what have you?

No i've been developing a new map for some time now, as soon as the converter came out it took me about half an hour to get the map up and running. Really it's not much hassle at all. See the link below and read throught the pages. I got the TFT Campaign map working. I stripped out just about everything from descr_strat.txt (factions, buildings, units, diplomatic stances etc. etc.) leaving just the empire_east, empire_west and slave factions on the map. The map loads, you can end turn with no problems.

Well its a start, is this in the BI folder or the -mod folder?

I get a provential campaign on both of them. Then of course it crashes to menu when you try to start or CTD.

So you get the Imperial map I am surprised it doesnt crash with everything removed? But all the cities are there or just your actual land map. Sounds like a 1.2 compatibility would be nice for thier next patch, anyone agree?

Does matter anyway as the Pilum bug prevents SPQR for working with BI or 1.3 as the Romans would be slaughtered on the AI.

Also have you tried to add 3 Roman factions for your TFT mod for BI? Should basically be the same. My biggest worry is IF one uses the BI folder there are SO many RTW files that would have to be transfered over that the mods would seriously INCREASE in size. anyone thought of this? I mean I dont want a 160MB mod turn into a 750mb overnight. The -mod switch would prevent this.

When trying to use the -mod with the BI.exe my campaign not only doesnt work even with a vanilla map, but also say Provential? should be the Imperial map. I think Jerome mentioned something about the BI.exe defaulting to the BI folder, if so there is no way around BI mod without seriously increasing their size?

Anyway, you guys have progressed farther in BI than myself. hopefully as you find out more you can shed some light on this. BTW it seems the Prefres invasion switch doesnt work, no noticeable difference in AI behavior. :-(

I use the provincal campaign system in B.I and it works fine for me - i've had no success with -mod yet, though i need to try again after reading what some the guys like player1 have found out. Your right about the size issue, this might well be a big problem for us, i guess we have to hope that CA address this in the next patch. The whole thing with chaging the faction names in 1.3 is bloody stupid! i guess someone in CA thought it would be funny...lol.

This pilum bug is worrying me now, i hadn't heard about it until you mentioned it, and the roman faction A.I. At the moment the frre map has 3 out the 4 roman factions on the map but i haven't had a chance to test the A.I yet. I hope that either we can fix these issues or CA do soon. Otherwise.....

Hmm there does seem to be some serious issues which need to resolved...anyway i'm going to continue with B.I, really out of hope! Whatever we find out you can be sure that we'll share it.

Not yet, but they seem to show up when I use my SPQR file, not when adding one at a time. I need to trace down which ones are the cause as the message doesnt say. Its weird to say the least.

And I agree, I think someone at CA thought it was funny changing the 1.3 names as anyone would know what this would do to the mods out there. But then tension between mods and developers is always there, and it was a small joke if one at all. ~:cool:

Problem with BI for me is it defaults to the RTW directory, this means alot of files need to be copied to the mod or the mod player needs to be told what to copy to make a BI mod work.

My biggest gripe is why some of BI features couldnt have been added in the 1.3 patch Later. This way were get thefeature to add to the mod, without the worry of the BI files. Heck if you look some of the RTW files were upgreaded with BI info that no one will use unless modding for BI. I just think it wasnt finished out maybe?

The pilum bug is bad and its there, I check this one myself, and its easy to do just figth a custom battle and let the AI be roman they will just charge and what is worse SOMETIMES it looks like the missile units will do the same, like the Skimish setting is going on and off. lol Sometimes I have had Archers charge my infantry and light infantry do the same.

Also the invasions dont seem to be working right and they get on and off the boats constantly, and the like invasion switch doesnt seem to do anything.

Then there is this Siege bug that causes the AI to do multiple attacks while your sieging them, and yet when they lose they still hold the city. That one I havent confirmed yet, mainly because I havent played BI at all except to test. I'll give it some time, But I may just sell my copy of BI. If its not really moddable and no one wishes to make models for its time period there no sense in playing with it. Plus anyone who installs the 1.3 or BI ruin the 1.2 mods, and its like making a new mod from scratch to make it 1.3 compatible.

Dont know only time will tell.

P.S. The Legion number needs to be changed no logical reason why 1st cohorts have to be recruited from the same province to be II,III,IV. That should be an easy fix IF they want to. If they dont fix it, this feature will be useless.
