The title reappears in it's province so you can reassign it to whomever you want.
Disband when the unit/general sucks and you don't need it.
Strip when the unit/general is valuable (if there was a loyalty bonus from the title - the general will take a hit - so make sure he is relatively loyal if you are going to strip him of is title)

One option if you want to take a title from a good general but keep him loyal is to marry him off to one of your daughters right afterward. Trade one favor for another.

RE Stripping: If you have reason to be concerned about the general's loyalty, just take him out of any stack he commands before you strip him of his titles.
Before I remove a title I put the guy in the stack with the King; before I disband I give all the troops in the unit to a better gen.

Huh? If he's embedded within a stack, does that mean you're dropping your emissary on your leader? Does that even work (ie the emissary goes greyish to indicate an action is permissable)?Quote:

The tricky part is when you haven't fought enough battles lately, or you've been dutifully repairing all your damaged units, such that troop shuffling between them is no longer possible. Sometimes you do get little batches of 10 men, who won't merge with anything because their valour mismatches with everything else of the same type. They are usually all I have left to drop the excess troops into and, in doing so, you lower the valour average at the same time. :embarassed:
I use title stripping when I have a governor with high acumen or useful virtues and a newly acquired province will be worth more with him in charge than the one he's currently looking after. The occasions when I strip titles purely because they've morphed into a 'duffer' are quite rare.

Actually, that's more of a hope than an assertion. If you're skint AND getting corruption vices then you have my sympathies but I would be puzzled by it too.
I agree with the idea that you don’t get the bad money vices unless you are doing financially well. In my HRE game (I hope to give an update someday) my governors and generals should be getting new virtues like “penny pincher” and “bargain shopper”.~DQuote:
