Apaprently this topic isn't fit for het general thread, so here goes.
Slings weer a realtively common weapon in some parts of Europe - they are noted in combat in Spain and England for example.
but they would requier addition of a new missile weapon type - they have some differences from oteehrs that would be worth noting if they were to be introduced.
So is it possible to create a new weapon type??

It could be done by someone good.
I don't think I could do it because of the need of new bif portraits for the unit. Also the weapon would have to be drawn and the movements coordinated to a figure. Well beyond my capability or time. LK or baracco or Lord Wellington might be able to do it but it would take an investment of time.
I am not sure if new weapons could be added. I think there are only 7 weapon and 7 shield slots. I don't know if the engine would recognize additional weapon or shield files.
I am curious if these slingers were staff slingers or the other type.
It would be nice though.

Both slings and staff slings were used, so both would be best if pssible.
Perhaps staff slings could be a more artillery-type weapon - like Naptha throwers without the explosions and a longer range.

I have tought about this for my
Romans and I wanted to make Irish
slingers too. This is possible but
will require a bit of work.
I was thinking of uding the naphta throwers
as the model for the basic animation.
So seen as I'm not the only one that wants
them I'll push them up the
priority list.

LK,
A few points to note if you try the slinger -
1) there is a generic unit for this action (Burnous/BurnousB?)
2) you would have to draw 2 sling images to make it look good -
- one loose image for walking etc: defined as weapon
- one taut image for shooting, defined as a shield
Defining 2 images makes most positioning of the sling on the figure easy - the shield image (having 4 pairs of xy-coords to play with) gives the added flexability required for 'swirling' it and also for the release on the last 2/3 frames (at which time the sling image would have to 'elongated'
I tried this, and defining 2 objects for the sling works. Pity abourt my lack of artistic qualities!
