Crazy Pat Robertson Again Embarrasses Self, God.
Pat Robertson again showed America just how uncomfortable he and his followers are with the concept of not living in a theocracy. Dover, Pennsylvania, just voted out of office their entire eight-member school board for trying to impose "intelligent design" on their children. Today, Pat fired back with a withering threat that God might smite them for "rejecting Him from your city".

Televangelist Robertson warns town of God's wrath

By Alan Elsner
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Conservative Christian televangelist Pat Robertson told citizens of a Pennsylvania town that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting "intelligent design" and warned them on Thursday not to be surprised if disaster struck.
Robertson, a former Republican presidential candidate and founder of the influential conservative Christian Broadcasting Network and Christian Coalition, has a long record of similar apocalyptic warnings and provocative statements.
Last summer, he hit the headlines by calling for the assassination of leftist Venezuelan Present Hugo Chavez, one of President George W. Bush's most vocal international critics.
"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city," Robertson said on his daily television show broadcast from Virginia, "The 700 Club."
"And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there," he said.
The 700 Club claims a daily audience of around one million. It is also broadcast around the world translated into more than 70 languages.
In voting on Tuesday, all eight Dover, Pennsylvania, school board members up for re-election lost their seats after trying to introduce "intelligent design" to high school science students as an alternative to the theory of evolution.
Adherents of intelligent design argue that certain forms in nature are too complex to have evolved through natural selection and must have been created by a "designer." Opponents say it is the latest attempt by conservatives to introduce religion into the school science curriculum.
The Dover case sparked a trial in federal court that gained nationwide attention after the school board was sued by parents backed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The board ordered schools to read students a short statement in biology classes informing them that the theory of evolution is not established fact and that gaps exist in it.
The statement mentioned intelligent design as an alternate theory and recommended students read a book that explained the theory further. A decision in the case is expected before the end of the year.
In 1998, Robertson warned the city of Orlando, Florida that it risked hurricanes, earthquakes and terrorist bombs after it allowed homosexual organizations to put up rainbow flags in support of sexual diversity.
Oh, and I always thought God was punishing Florida for the 2000 election. Glad to see that it's for rainbow flags.
But, seriously, I joke about God punishing the Gulf Coast for voting Bush into office, but Pat Robertson actually believes that God sits around waiting to punish people for things like tolerance towards homosexuals and rejection of 'intelligent design' theory.
I'd like him to explain why the only part of New Orleans that was spared significant damage was the French Quarter with its prostitutes, booze, and naked boobies. I think God and Pat Robertson must have different priorities.

Floods is just run-of-the-mill testing of the faithful, same as plagues, meteor strikes and war. The Lord is planning even worse punishment for the immoral French Quarter so naturally he had to spare it the regular testing. ~

If this man ever gets elected or appointed into any office, I will be very compelled to leave the States.

Yes, He is using the same selection process as the Allies in WWII with dropping the Bomb. Leave the area untarnished so you really get to see the huge difference when the trumpets sound.

Uh, didn't the Pope just reject intelligent design?

Does he expect tornados to cease in Kansas (which just allowed ID)? We will wait and see next year if Toto goes flying! ~D

Re: Crazy Pat Robertson Again Embarrasses Self, God.
Well, Pat 'Who Would Jesus Assasinate' Robertson probably already doesn't like the Vatican.
The Vatican, by the way, was one of the first supporters of the Big Bang theory in the 1960s (i think that's when the theory came out).

Is this also the guy who said that 9/11 was God's punishment for allowing homosexuals to live among normal people ~

LOL rabbit, I like that WWJA phrase! Genius.
Yes the Catholic church has a very advanced philosophical system, I can't see anyone really being able to completely destroy it, except by using the church's sacred history, but even then...

Darnit, Aurelian, you bet me to it.
I was going to entitle mine, "The Scourge of God", and let the members figure out to whom this refered. ~:)

I must give credit for the WWJA to Michael Ramirez, a (conservative!) cartoonist:

Oh, here's the article about the Catholic Church backing Darwin: Evolution in the Bible Says Vatican. I bet Robertson and Falwell say bad things about Catholic "idolaters" when they get together to give each other their weekly hot oil rubdowns.
Nice thing about Catholicism: They've learned to take the long view of things and roll with the punches. Plus, their schools usually provide a pretty decent education.
As for natural disasters, what the heck do you suppose the people in that Indiana trailer park did? Must have been pretty bad. LINK
Ah, I just figured it out. Sixty percent of them voted for Bush in the 2004 election. LINK I bet if we correlated natural disasters by state with the results of the 2004 election we'd have clear proof that my theory explains things better than Pat Robertson's.
Yes, I've just looked at the list of FEMA Major Disaster Declarations for 2005. I've calculated that in 2005, on the 40 occasions when God chose to smite the United States with a Major Disaster, only 8 smitings occurred in states that voted for John Kerry. Fully 80% of God's smitings occurred in states that went for George Bush in 2005.
Coincidence? I think not.
When you further examine the data, you find that of the 8 occasions when God targeted blue states for smiting:
* Two were in California (in retaliation for electing Arnold Schwarzenegger)
* One was in New Hampshire (the only New England state that George Bush almost carried)
Most notably, liberal Massachusetts was spared smiting despite a 2003 State Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage.
Yea, verily I say unto you that God is sending a clear message that He will no longer tolerate the wickedness, depravity, and Pharisee-like tendencies of America's red states.
Furthermore, let us not forget the "Miracle of the Disappearing WMDs", and the miraculous investigation and/or indictment of everyone in the Republican party.
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Amen

Pat Robertson's existence could be used to further the argument AGAINST Intelligent Design.

If there really is a biblical God, I doubt that he would ever be embarrassed by the likes of Pat. It would be nice though if He sent, let us say, a twister to suck Pat up, individually, from somewhere in the middle of the cornfields. Unseen by anyone. Never to be seen again. From one moment to the next. Whoosh!
Imagine..

Well...It's in the bible, God has the bad habit of getting furious and smash people's little heads, burn them, electrocute them and turning them into salt.~;)
This guy always surprises me, I thought there was a limit on the things that fanactics could say, but I was wrong.

It's a scare tactic and a control mechanism to keep people's behaviour in-check and render them submissive.
eg. Do X and Y will happen to you, courtesy of deity Z.
The problem is there's no actual deity and the people who control the deity controls morality. And they get to set and limit what people can do or think of.

What are you talking about? This guy is ridiculously funny! Am I the only person who finds this guy so blatanly ironic? I mean Ann Coulter is somewhat of a hazy perons in regards to her opinions, but this guy heads the christian TV movement and he calls for assasinations on people and for the security of oil shipments. It's deliscious!

Re: Crazy Pat Robertson Again Embarrasses Self, God.
Like, he's the Howard Dean of Evagelical Christians, but the media gives him more publicity whenever he says soemthing like this.

But it's not ironic at all, Christian doctrine has hold vengeance as one of their highest values in the Order. But I find him funny, the problem is that we've here many "negotiators" and opportunists evangelicals and chrisitians, whom steal money from the people's purse, so I'm kind of "used" to it.~:joker:

Re: Crazy Pat Robertson Again Embarrasses Self, God.
Let me see if I get this. By voting God out of their city, the folks of Dover lost their right to say
"Please Lord save us from the troubles that You have sent upon us"
and, if things got really really bad in Dover couldn't they just reelect the Christians to the school board, say, "Look, God, we have made Thee a sacrifice of the heathen board members" and everything would be cool again. If you can vote God out of your city then surely you can vote him back in (works best when He is a write-in candidate).
or perhaps it was God's will that the good townspeople voted the way that they did, because He wants us to continue pursuing truth and understanding instead of following superstitions and myths. Maybe a truly loving God would want the best for us.

ps the 'WWJA' thing is hilarious, as is most of this thread
