Video Card's Performance.....need help and opinions....
Hello everybody.
For the first time, I faced a horde....I'm playing ERE, my army had around 1,000 guys, and the enemy army was Huns, with 2,500 men.
When the battle started, I could notice the video performance a bit slower, but when the Huns started to move their units, the video performance sucked....lags, lags and lags........
How are your video performance when fighting a battle with more than 3,000 men? How to improve the performance in these conditions? What is the best video configuration to prevente lags?
I run BI with an AMD Athlon 3000+, 1GB ram, and my video card is ATI Radeon 9800pro - 256bit - 128mb ram.
Best Regards, Abdel Hak

Turn off high quality shadows, and untick desynchronise animations. That will help a little. Lower AA if need be, but consider turning down terrain details. I know from experience that fighting among tree laden hills and mountains tends to have more of a framerate impact than on featureless desert plains or wherever. My system isn't really any better than yours, worse if anything, but I can usually get a good 5000-6000 man battle going. What resolution you playing at? Try limiting it to 1024x768.

Moving the camera higher up can help too--if it's down at ground level, especially where there's long grass, my framerate drops horrifically.

Hey all;
Based on this conversation, which are the best New Gen AGP
cards for BI, I have noticed some lags, I figured I'd like to run
larger units, or better resolution.
Any suggestions?

I use a 6800 and only get stutters on triple game speed, a 6800gt is even better.

I have conducted some tests to see what video options had the most impact on performance
You can see the results here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=35732
Basically, the buldings and grass settings have the most impact

I concur about the grass having a huge impact. It isn't really very important so it's worthwhile reducing the grass levels as I've found in some cases this doubles the framerate.
