What to do with general with VnV like this?
I had battle with GH in Moldavia and I won Phyrric. My general run away and suffer Good Runner and Doubtfull Courage same turn ~:mecry:. (Btw. it's XL mod remoded by myself).
1. What to do with him - kill with assassin (I have assassins with 8 and 7 stars), disband or leave him to live?
2. My best 9 star general have alcoholic VnV (-20 health). What means -20 health?

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I'd promote him to be a governor of something instead of killing him. He's a great builder. The war is over for him.

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I forgot - he had following stats:
loyalty - 9
piety - 0
dread - 0
command - 3
acumen - 2
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
Command is only 3 and his acumen is too low to make him a good governer. If I were you I'd just disband his unit. Besides, Great Builder is easy enough to get.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
Kill 'im, pour encourager les autres.
Or disband him. But, basically, he's broken.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
He doesn't cost too much, just leave him a province behind enemy lines and use him to quell rebellions.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
(sniff) I think I smell burning - got to be an inquisitor! Might as well get a bit of training out of the death of this reject
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
It's a style question, what rules are you playing by?
I never disband, assassinate, or burn loyal gens, but he's no longer fit to command. Either give him a little province somewhere to manage (you can get his acumen up with a title or two) or slip him into the King's stack.
Don't let him lead an army.

Some of you are really cruel. ~:mecry:
How can you treat your generals who served you like that?

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I'm more interested in how the Danes became a Mediterranian power (never seen them further than northern Spain) than in his generals...
And yeah, the guy is not that great, there's nothing there that noone new could learn. However, personally I tend to treat my generals well, so I'd just leave him to tend some godforsaken place. C'mon, give the man a break! There's no reason to burn the little fella just because he isn't Superman.. ~;)

No, it's only imitation of middle ages, a period where this game is set to, where kings used to have their generals killed ~;) ~ ~
However, I agree ichi's solution to be the best one

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I have played the Danes and had a couple of longboats in every sea lane and
even captured Antioch, Palestine and Tripoli just for fun ~;) . It was on
normal difficulty though ~ . Constaninople was mine too ~;) . I
enjoy playing as the Danes mainly because at the start you don't have so
many provinces to manage (like HRE and Byz) and you can take any route
you want. ~

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
You should put him in a stack where he wouldn't be the general. Or you can train your inquisitors on him.

[QUOTE=DukeofSerbia]My best 9 star general have alcoholic VnV (-20 health). What means -20 health?
Health equates to the amount of hits a sprite can take before dying. Generals have more than normal soliders, but -20 health results in about -6 hit points. This should be slightly evened up by his command - 9 command has a big bonus. He will be rather vulnerable, be very careful if you're going to use him in combat.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I would give him a quiet place to retire or put him under a greater general. He is loyal enough that you don't need to worry him.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
Yes, give him some place to retire, but first use the men in his unit to fill the loses in other. Then put in some nice sunny provance were he can life his life in peace.

Grant him governership and an office if you have any available. His base acumen (2) will increase this way and you will get more income.

I rather give titles to a general who already has 5 acumen. That way Constantinople, Egypt, Antioch and others get an uber governor.

Sure, why not, if you already have a five acumen general.

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I'd use him. He gives total of +18 morale to those around him and +9 morale to everyone else. -6 IS NOT THAT MUCH. I don't find it all that needed when your whole army has a 4 valour bonus.

Actually, Danes were much bigger, but they are in war with 7-8 states continuesly, and then Aragon reappeared and push them from Spain, but they (Aragon) broke up in civil war (those rebels in Spain and Western France) and Fatimids then countered in Middle East...:duel:

I don't see how he could give troops +18 morale with only 3-star command. Was there a morale-enhancing V&V I missed?
Otherwise his command rating is only going to give a +3 morale bonus to troops within 50 meters of him, others further away are only going to gain +1. Then subtract the -6 penalty, and his army is going to start fighting with net morale losses from their base levels. Better to have no General at all leading the men, don't you think?

I was refering to the 9 star with good runner.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
I did not think the valour from the general gave the morale bonus, only the attack and defence bonuses.

OK, I get it now. There were two Generals in DukeofSerbia's original post, one 3-star with Good Runner, and one 9-star alcoholic with Dead Drunk(-20 Health). You just got them switched, which makes you just as confused as I am! ~:)

Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
Troops get +1 valour for every 2 stars of command for a general. Normally valour add +1 attack, +1 defence, and +2 morale. For valour gained from a general I do not think troops get the morale bonus. Therefore the nine star general with the good runner vice would not be that great.
Unless I somehow am all screwed up.
-
Re: What to do with general with VnV like this?
The general himself gives a a +2 morale bonus to troops around him and +1 to everyone else.
