Skin & Model Repository & Bits 'n' Bobs Archive
This thread is an archive of miscellaneous skins & models created or modified by members of the community. They may be downloaded and used freely and, with proper credit, included in other mods made publicly available.
The sad truth is that may mod projects that are begun are never completed - but the real tragedy arises when the effort put into them is lost to the community and its creations left unused on someone's harddrive.
Equally, in learning to mod, we create skins & models as part of developing our skills without necessarily intending them for any particular project.
Perhaps they are now useless or unwanted to their creator, but perhaps they will inspire other modders, perhaps help another mod onto completion.
So please do have a root around your harddrive and see if you've got anything that may be at all useful and then post it here, or if you've been a part of mod project that will unfortunately never be completed - or you are a modder who is leaving RTW - please consider releasing your work to the community. There have been several examples of recently of excellent work that simply cannot continue to be used in good conscience because the modders can no longer be contacted to ask for their permission.
How to help 1) Upload the file in zip format to the Org filespace through the Uploader
2) Take a screenshot of your skin or model and host it on www.imageshack.us
3) Post a reply in this thread, including a thumbnail of the image, a link to the file and the following information: its title, who created/modified it, (for skins) the model it uses, whether a unit card or unit_info card exists for it.
As many new players, I was intrigued by the Samnite mercenaries. I intended for a while to bulk out a mercenary list for them - before I actually learned a little more about who the Samnites actually were. Most of the changes are just changing the shade and adding the Samnite symbol to shields and armour.
My first mod was called Rome Total ZOR which changed the recruitment model so that you were able to recruit any troop from any faction so long as you controlled that faction's homelands. I planned a successor mod (entitled 'CZOR') which would have had skins so that every unit would appear in each faction's colours. I had started on the barbarians when I realised that in fact most players hated the faction colours after all.
These next two skins were modified by The_Ferret as part of the WYSISYG project which was designed to provide a graphical solution to all the inconsistencies in the unit file (eg, units having shields when they don't have a shield bonus). The Britons and Germans both got additional armour to make them consistent with the look of other units of similar stats. The Armenian Cataphract Archers similarly got additional armour on the face and arms to justify their high armour value.
This is a simple wodden cannon i made for Vanilla v1.2. Pretty fun to play around with. Cool to have huge 20vs20 cannon duels. The unit doesnt have sprites. Also its been updated to look better etc since the screens were taken.
You can dload it here: RTW_CANNON (right click > save as)

Re: Miscellaneous Skin & Model Repository
Could the Zulu Total War team perhaps include your cannon in our mod with proper accreditation of course ~;) We'll need to re-skin it but it's just the right shape (though it probably should be smaller) for an early 19th Century Naval Cannon.
Thanks!

Re: Miscellaneous Skin & Model Repository
Host the picture at www.imageshack.us it will then copy and paste the code it generates for you into a reply.

Re: Miscellaneous Skin & Model Repository - The Dead Projects Archive
Too lazy to actually upload a screenshot ... but I recall posting pics of this stuff on the org back when I first made them ~:)
Re: Miscellaneous Skin & Model Repository - The Dead Projects Archive
What's with the 'Dead Projects Archive' bit you've tagged on? I think that's a bit negative. I think this is a great place for people to share their miscellaneous 'bits and bobs', but not necessarily just old leftover stuff, which is what the thread now suggests - more so than ever! I think it's a shame the Org doesn't have a greater emphasis on providing resources for others as it is. It would be nice to see a bit more open sharing of resources instead of having to hunt elsewhere. And it's a scary world outside the Org! :hide:
PS What about adding sticky status to the thread?

Re: Miscellaneous Skin & Model Repository - The Dead Projects Archive
The name addition just sounded cool, but you're right. As for sticky status, I just hope that people will be generous enough so that won't be necessary.
Sad to hear it, but thanks for releasing them
Here's a few screenshots of Bwian's fantasy models he posted above.
(NB: you have to change the wolf rider edu mount entry from warg to wolf and the dmb entries in the skeleton line for the goblins to vanilla skeletons)

Yeah, it'd be good if this topic was stickied. Saves having to dig through search results by keywords and / or skim-reading through the vast quantity of Forge topics until your eyes hurt ~D
Its a utility topic more than anything IMO, don't really see it as a scrapheap for incompleted / dead / freelance / one-off requests etc modding projects. Even just a couple of new / reskinned etc units keeps the game interesting.
I'll gladly include the work done in the mod once I've released it (obviously apart from others work). I could upload the units now, but its yet more fiddling with URLs, screenshots, webspace etc.
OK, the mod hasn't been released yet, but here's a couple of unlocked models, textures, unit & unit info cards (created by Marly). Note that the models and textures should already be present if you've used Vercingetorix's x-pak extractor tool to unpack the .pak files, just replace them with the ones in the download:

There's quite a lot of work involved to add new units into the text files. If you haven't already done so, I'd read this tutorial for an explanation on how all the files link together:
