Re: Music-Map (nice website)
quite nice, thank you Quietus.
I gave it a try and it kinda froze on me - I waited for about 5 minutes or more...

This is mine... Nice web site, Quietus.

I'm inclined to think this site's got a direct link to my iTunes, it's that accurate ~;)

Impressive database, but I don´t think it´s overly accurate. It can combine bands that go in the same direction but the distances are not really representative. For example, it´s certainly not correct to place Blutengel closer to Hocico than Feindflug.
Re: Music-Map (nice website)
311 is sick! I saw them last night. Aye, Hybrid shouldn't be further from tiesto than Oakenfold, still really good to get names.

A lot of favorites in this map, generated from my favorite band, Ace of Base

Yeah, it's not truly accurate, when it's reloaded, it's never the same (ie. hitting full screen on Firefox to rejumble). But it's not bad.
Re: Music-Map (nice website)
Interesting. I generated some leads from a German group called Hardfloor. I discovered them when I bought their "Respect" CD in a used record shop for $8. I like their unusual techno-trance style, and have been looking for similar groups. Interesting, too, that this system doesn't recognize Missing Persons, or Pat Travers, and doesn't list Jeff Beck when you enter Jan Hammer, and vice versa. When I have more time I will experiment further to see if any interesting patterns emerge. Thanks for this, Quietus.
Re: Music-Map (nice website)
The database only have western (and some japanese) artists, though.
Searching for artists to avoid (britney spears), and "related" to her, in the same screen, in the corner, I got RAMMSTEIN! yes, Rammstein! how far from truth this is???

I put in Slayer, and Britney Spears showed up. ~ I'm thinking some people are messing with the DB.
EDIT-> either that, or Britney is music's Kevin Bacon.

~D There are people messing with it likely. The database is culled from questionnaires from users (gnoosic.com, I believe).
Anyway if the novel database isn't yielding results, you can always go to www.allmusic.com.
