Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Here are both our 'antique' and 'plain' versions of the 0.8 map. They are almost all correct, but one province change at Gaetulia is there in the big map (it is neglible in the way it works though). I'll include 'small' (hehe) versions and large ones (high quality and detailed). The small ones are on the thumbnails below (hosted by imageshack), but the large ones are (for now) downloadable through our website. These might be good to keep on your desktop for easy 'preview' viewing (i.e., save them instead of using our bandwith over and over please), or you could print them out if you're particularly insane. ~D

I like... I like... :rtwyes:
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Ok, the permanent links for the two big maps are now found above updated in the first post.
Please use "Save As..." and download the images onto your desktop. It will save us bandwith and you will always have the image there to load quickly.
I definitely recommend everyone downloading one or both of them though - they will help you remember where things are a lot more efficiently.
Enjoy!
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
You might as well put these (in this first post) in that thread you started brian.

Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
There is a little inaccuracy on map according to names of baltic tribes. City names may be ok, but land names are wrong. In the place of Sembu Gentys C. Tacitus mentioned Aestiorum Gentes (Latin term, Tribes of Aistians), on the map is mentioned medieval tribe in wrong gramar form. If you trying to make reconstruction or something of Baltic language, then it should be Sembun Gentes (plural, Sembian Tribes) or Sembun Gentis (singular, Sembian tribe).
Budinije should be spelled as Budinia or Budinija
and Nurije as Neuria or Neurija, and city - Neurijas Gordos (City of Neurija), Neurias Gordos...

That's right! Never again call the master with with his divine name. :whip: Mortals should always use the temple name.

Hi, Velnias :) I remember you from that debate on Istorija :) Still, for the sake of other readers, I'll write where we got the names from.
The debate died out on main forum, but went on in private messages, and these are the names we eventually came up with. I wouldn't want to get into that whole thing again here, since, as I remember, there was a lot of controversy about the proper grammar endings, and your opinion was not the only one given there...
The names are a result of a very long (and heated) debate on Istorija.net forums a couple of months ago. The link is here: http://www.istorija.net/forums/threa...d=24833#M24833 We tried to reflect the difference between east- and west-baltic families here, which was supposedly already present at the time - which is why the two baltic provinces use slightly different grammar forms.
(wait till you see what we came up with for unit names :)

These are not reconstructions of Baltic languages, but rather primitive proto-slavic (as I decided to follow the allochtonic theory, since, well, we had to chose _something_ for the game, and allochtonic just seemed neater) (I know it may sound anachronistic for 270BC, but remember that by that time the split between slavic and baltic branches already occured, so it would seem the proto-slavic family were already "somewhere") - and we discussed the location of Neuri on that forum also. The endings may be still changed if you (or someone) can find better sources on PS grammar than I could.
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Well, sembu gentys is modern Lithuanian and Latvian variant form, not west Baltic. West Baltic feature was that they had ending -an in Genitive Plural of a-stem nouns. So then it should be "Semban Gentis".
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
An updated map for the upcoming patch: 0.7.3 beta, I believe.
https://img146.imageshack.us/img146/...que15ae.th.jpg
If you want the really detailed versions you can still get them from the first post above, but they don't have some of the changes. They are still for 0.7.2 beta.
Only major new name changes include:
Tripolitania province is now Syrthim
Massylim province is now Mashiliem
Let me know if something doesn't match up. There are still some changes coming when Meneldil gets a little more time, but they won't be incorporated until our next release, when we will probably be changing Blemmyes to Ptolemais Theron, on the red sea coast, and we will be changing Nikomedia to Nikaia, as well as more terrain changes and refinements by Stormy.
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
mmmmmmmmmm upcoming patch. I like.
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
I see the solution for the sand wars - going to be tricky to conquer Terhazza.
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Eleven month map update! :2thumbsup:
Quick questions: What is the point of Gaetulia/Tuat? It seems like a waisted territory. And will the sahara be conquerable or is that settlement surrounded by mountains?
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Does the AI ignore cities it cant see? Or will we see armies wandering lost in the desert trying to find it...
It would be cool if it confines Carthage-Ptolomaic battles to the coastal strip. It always frustrated me when full stack armies came wandering in out of the desert...
Will the AI attack provinces its not adjoining? (like will the Ptolies attack Phasania without first having Sahara?)
I guess Tuat is there to allow you to stick Terhazza out there in the Burkina Faso :p
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
The province of Gaetulia will be removed in future builds and another added elsewhere. This is the first step in that process. Gaetulia won't have roads to it from elsewhere or affect nearby provinces. But we didn't have time to totally remove it. This is an intermediate step.
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Maybe get Ai Khanoum in Baktria?
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
Well, it has been decided I think. I won't say where the new one will be exactly, but it is in the east 1/2 of the map.

ALERT
IN ARACHOSIA, it should be "Alexandria of Caucasus Indicus" or someth, not Alexandropolis....
or even better "Alexandria Kaukasia"
Alexandropolis was never used in ancient times....
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
What I find funny about Gaetulia/Tuat is that it is perfectly square.I have NEVER seen a perfectly square province. There's just something funny about it. (Yes,this was completely randomness).

Interesting. Holt just kept refering to it as Ai Khanoum, but did mention it's strong ties to Anahita.

For is the province that shall disappear in later versions. To be replaced by...
Foot
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
It won't be perfectly square. They rounded it out on the real map - that was easy. But since it will go away soon, I'm not drawing all those little lines by hand with the line tool just for a province that will disappear in the next build. That is what I said there is an error - the province borders for that one.
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
What is up with the rivers in the southern Maeotis area?

And should I read that grin of yours as a clear sign that the settlement is to be controlled/ soon to be conquered by a 'Greek' faction? ~;)
Re: Maps for Europa Barbarorum
It will be under control of a faction. Not a new rebel area.
I can't answer the Maeotis question. Maybe one of our other map guys can.
