Ok. Lots of people Have lots of problems with Shogun.
So Im making this for people to reference to.
Heres what Ive Thought of so far.
Ive added the answer(s) in Spoiler codes So you can see the topics with less scrolling.
Please feel free to tell me more problems or solutions you know of.

Common Problems.
STW.
---------------- GAME WILL NOT START...
IT DISPLAYS A PLEASE INSERT CORRECT CD ERROR, OR BOOTS THEN CRASHES TO DESKTOP.
7 POSSIBLE causes,
(remember to check cd is in drive 1st)
1. WMP is no longer the default player for associated media types of the game.

fix this by finding the STW game folder,
Then locating an audio file,
Right click it,
Select properties,
At the top of the new window it says
OPEN WITH:
Click on the Change button.
Then select windows media player as the default handler for that file type,Do the same to a video file in the stw game folder.
2. You have installed new CODECS.

codecs are a pain in the butt, different files need different codecs. So people download different 1s and install them, But like i said , different files need different codecs and you can accidently replace the codecs STW uses and replace them with a nother,
here are 2 sets of codecs that Work with STW and Allow a Whole host of other files to be played as well.
The 1st one is the one id recommend Its called the Kazzalite codec pack,
But has Nothing to do with Kazza or kazza lite...
At the moment my File server seems to be down So this file is going on to the shoguntw server,
so please dont abuse it.
1: KLCODECS
this next one is a huge 49mb and as such its not on one of my servers yet. but when my file host comes back online i will ad both files there and update links.
"PLEASE NOTE THESE CODECS HAVE BEEN REPORTED AS NOT BEING COMPATIBLE WITH STW. BY SOLD OUT GAMES SO PLEASE USE THE KLITE CODECS ABOVE TO ENSURE GAME PLAY"

3. Starforce is installed,
This program is an anti piracy program that is
installed by some newer games. it Prevents people running games without the correct cd. Although.. It has also been known to mess up proper games as well.

Fix this by downloading and then running the STARFORCE REMOVAL TOOL, http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55 Please note that The program that origionaly installed starforce needs it to run and as such will re install it every time you use that program, The removal works every time.
4. You have A web cam attached to your pc, (logitech expeshialy)

Dissconect the camera "I also uninstall the programs that came with the camera"
Although Methos says he did not haft to unisntall the programs,
Just dissconect the camera"
5.safedisk Drivers are wrong, This fix is new to me, So heres what i heard. (posted by rzajac)

The solution was to upgrade the safedisk driver. (at Macrovision)
6, Registry entrys got messed up some how,

Uninstall the game delete the game folder. And run a registry cleaner. Then re-install.
7. You have multiple cd drives. Or Virtual cd/optical drives

its rare but some games make note of which drive letter it was installed from. Maby the cd is in the wrong drive, Also some programs will refuse to run if you have a virtual drive installed, This is usualy a sideafect of star force being installed so See above.

Game Crashes Mid campaign/When a diamo dies
1. This is usualy Something to do with the sound or Cut scene's

the 1st thing to check is that Windows media player is the default Player for the associated media files in stw.
See post 1 Above for directions on WMP file association.
Also it may be a good idea to Check that your codecs work with the stw files.
2: It has also been accosiated with Poems being corupted.

It has been mentioned on the org forum That deleting the Voices Folder from the STW game folder Will allow you to run the game fine,

I cant play Online. Theres no server to connect to

The most obvious answer is..
EA shut down the MP server so you cant connect to that, BUT.
there are other servers.
You can Download ShambleSTW from http://shoguntw.2ya.com Which will allow you to connect to internet games,
You can also edit your Internet.cfg file.
This should be edited so it contents are like so..
This is uaualy becous You havent configured the game to connect to ShambleS's Server.(see above)
Or that the server is down.
You can visit Shoguntw.2ya.com and look on the home page to see if the server is up or not,

The game says Loging On and just sits there for ages

This is a windows xp problem
I have been able to by pass it by installing the game on to a fat 32 hard drive,
and putting a tick in the
"Use existing internet connection box"
The only other "workaround" which works for me... Is to..
Try to connect. Count up to 5 seconds...
"1 elephant.. 2 elephants 3 elephants 4 elephants 5 elephants"
Like that.
And if its not loged in by the time you finish. Hit escape And try again.
(It can take Multiple attempts)
You can also try this method

I cant Install the game from cd

This covers ALL pc games,...
The chances are that the cd is a little bit corrupted/scratched. And the data needed takes to long to read for the installation to continue.
To by pass this we can make a new folder on your computer some where.
Copy all the files from the cd's to the folder.
Last cd 1st 1st cd last.
Do it 1 file at a time.... So you can find out which file is messed up,
Most of the time You will be able to transfer all the files to the folder and install from there.
If you find a wav file or video file was corrupted.
Replace it with a similar sized audio or video file from the game folder,
"remember to rename the replacement so it has the same name as the file its replacing"
If its a more important file. like a cab file or something You can ask other STW players if they would not mind sending the file to you.

MP Games Are LAGGY AS HELL!

The biggest cause of mp game lag Has to be undoubtedly SOUND.
The more players there are the more Sounds each pc has to consider,
if you MUTE your sound in options
"not reduce the volume" You should realize that Lag is reduced exponentially,
"fauna and smoke also causes some lag But Nothing compared to what sounds cause"

I CANT SEE ANY GAMES IN THE FOYER.

If your using STW original Not WE or MI.
You MUST update to v1.02 for you to be able to view the foyer properly.
Most people play STW/WE Though, So you may wish to upgrade to MI or WE, so there is a greater number of people you can play against.
Also theres the possibility that the person hosting the game has router/fire wall configuration problems.

You dont need to enter your cd key to play on fake server.
And even if i could steal your cd key's They are no longer relevant to stw.

You probably have a router or your on a network or have a fire wall "or combination of all"
To fix this you must Forward the correct ports to your pc,
the correct ports are...
8793
4040 (probably not needed)
AND
18321
Please consult your documentation as to how you configure your router,
Also ICS "internet connection sharing" could also be hindering you.
You will need to Forward the same ports from there as well.
Fire walls are easier to configure, Just allow STW to access the internet in both UDP and TCIP Incoming and outgoing.
Note....
8793, is the Fakeserver's port.
4040, Is What I connect to fake server using. (you can possibly ignore this port as it usually changes every time you try to connect. Next time i connect it will most likely be "4041")
18321 Is the port that you Host games on,
This is guaranteed,
They all use TCP AND UDP, So remember to forward both

I get an Error.
STW caused a fault in "xxxxxxxx"

This is usually memory resident problem,
If you open a different game 1st. It should clear the ram and alow you to run the game,
You can also reboot which will usually fix the problem,
Or You can also copy your stw folder and paste it els where The new pasted copy will work.
if none of the above fixes work,
reinstall the game.

i also get a blue screen after battle and says windows is shuting down.
