I stumbled upon this in during my varied internet browsing and I thought it might be curious enough to discuss.

Now, I wonder. Is personal competence in any way related to your beliefs so that you can't do what is best for a community if you don't believe in God?

Basically, the constitution of most of democracies created in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries have these sort of anachronisms. It's not important and should not be taken seriously. If it is taken seriously, then you're a nation of anally-retentive pedants and deserve to be Israel's bitch.
Its a state constitution - It has no meaning outside of that state. Frankly the only part of the mentioned Article and section that is adhered to is the one that no religious test shall ever happen to hold or run for office.Quote:

i have never understood why non-Christians have defended the constitution when it was created with christian ideals. i believe that this is confused. do they think that early American documents were inspired by some secular superlative?

Well, that doesn't make it ok. If you have a country with (arguably) most lawyers per capita, you could surely dig into the old archives and throw away this sort of outdated stuff, specially if it is already superceeded by other legislative documents. Why the duality? (duplicity? duodenum?:gring: )
