Annoying typing habits hall of fame.
Post the worst typing habits you have seen in forums. This isn't about bad English; it's about people who go out of their way to make their posts as difficult to read as they can, while still being some sort of English.
Never mind. The list wasn't working out.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
I don't have any links, but I'll describe what I find hard to read.
Centering text and coloring it does make for a difficult to read post. Personally, I don't like reading shortened words like "you -> u" on forums. Shortening seems useful in chat and gaming situations, but on forums it just seems annoying and juvenile.
AnOtHeR ThInG Is ThIs KiNd oF WrItInG. It has been a long time since I've read any of that, but I know it still exists, somewhere.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
Failure to use things like sentences and paragraphs, although I don't ues the latter alot when I make big posts......

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
bad grammar, and syntax both irritate me equally.

That isn't really the point of this thread. We're talking about people who GO OUT OF THEIR WAYTO mAkE Their Posts Hard To Read.
I Think I'll Add The Guy Who Wrote Everything Like This And Got mad When People Asked Him To Stop.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
i proof read for a living, don't even get me started...!
typos to the point of incoherency are annoying; you know someone's probably making a really good and useful point, but it might as well be in Sanskrit.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
My mother was proof-reading an english text the other day, it's by some Dutch bloke who decided to write his book on management in English; not only is the spelling atrocious, the sentence structures make no sense and the content is utter piffle. One of his analogies turned into something about elephants dancing to the worker's music, and lost track of any kind of logic whatsoever. Annoying for my mother, because she has to make some kind of sense of it all without changing the meaning.
-
Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
and there was me thinking most Dutch people had better English than i do!
the frustrating thing about proof-reading rather than copy-editing is that i can't actually alter the content even if it's rubbish...just check spelling and grammar.
the use of the word utilise winds me up and all. as does all management-speak, not we get that on the forums happily. perhaps someone should write an 'empire' report in management-speak!
'i initiated a proactive executive handover strategy' = i invaded his damn country
'project setback due to competitive utilisation of aerodynamic low-technology projectiles' = shot full of arrows
and so forth...

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
I don't like it when people typing in ghetto English. It's cool if you have accent and all but unless it's for "saving time and energy" reason I hate it. For example people type "souljah" instead of "soldier." I mean both words got the same amount of characters.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
i do this all the time, i cant tell the difference between there and their i also hate random smileys :furious3:
-
Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
I hate it when people leave the "h" off of "hall" :p
-
Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
i`ve never fancied posts without capitals.. just had to try it out..
i don`t like POSTS WITH FREQUENT USE OF CAPS LOCK either.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
I hate: posts in foreign; a noticeable lack of capital letters; a noticeable lack of punctuation (for longer posts); bad punctuation; childish short hand (luv, ur, r, l8r, 4, da, and so on); a lack of any order to a sentence, and others which don't come to mind immediately.

Fixed. I'll always wonder why I didn't see that in the first place.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
My blood's boiling over mistakes in this very thread!
Capitalize the first letter in every sentence!
There's such a thing as a "shift key," you know.

It's one of those laws of the internet that if you make a post criticizing someone else's spelling you will make a spelling mistake yourself.

Re: Annoying typing habits hall of fame.
I'm usually impeccable when nitpicking.

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
I hate it when people say "me" instead of "I" where appropriate. I hate it when write sentences that don't make any sense (ie anything by STFS, and Redleg). I also hate it when people capitalize every single word. GAH!
I guess Texans don't make great writers. :shrugs:

Re: Annoying typing habits all of fame.
I do this myself sometimes, so don't get too offended if I'm talking about you.
I hate it when people structure a post like this:
< And I know that my hypothesis is right for 4 essential reasons:
First, blah blah blah.
B, blah blah blah.
And finally, blah. Like I said, I was right> End of Post.
I find myself scanning and scanning, looking for item 4, D, IV, whatever... Not in there as it turns out.
I also don't care for when people don'tbreak up long posts into paragraphs. Either shorten the post, or give us some white space. Old men's eyes tire easily, and it's not like you're wasting paper!
