Question Regarding Horse Archers

I have been playing MTW XL for a little while now and have not been able to figure this out. Is there a way to make horse archers stop using their bows and switch the their melee weapons? I play a lot as the Novograds and their are times when I would really like them to charge but I have to wait until they fire off all their arrows.

Use [Alt]-[left-click]. The cursor will turn into a sword while [Alt] is pressed and you can order a unit to engage in melee this way.
