How to unlock factions as the celts in BI?

Easier yet go to:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\bi\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion

Modify the file called descr_strat. From here you can move the various factions from unplayable, playable, and unlockable categories. Make sure you don't list them under more than one.

Rebel factions (Slavs, Romano-British, WR Rebels, etc.) remain unplayable unless you use a mod like Slave Commander.

:laugh4: oh, so it is much easier

You need a mod for most factions actually since several of the ones that start on the map do not have a campaign description or a campaign map. If you don't add these in, the game will CTD when you click on their campaign icon.

I modified the file, but did not add descriptions or maps and yet am able to play without crashing to desktop. I have seen others report the same instance. Not sure why some CTD without the decription and others do not.

I can gladly confirm that with 1.5/1.6 patches, camapign descriptions are not longer necessary to unlock unplayable factions.

Like with 1.0/1.2 it's just enought to modify descr_start.txt file.

That's the news I was looking for. I have just installed the 1.5/1.6 patch and wondered whether the old all factions mod was compatible.
