New mod: Oriental Total War (OTW)

The OTW mod is about japan and a small part of China, Mongolia and Korea. This mod is not going to be historical.

The features in OTW are;

• There will be about 15 factions (including Chin and Yan)
• 99% new units
• New buildings
• Totally new campain map and settlements

Uh-huh. So, what've you got finished thus far? Models, text editing, the map, concepts?

Nothing has been finished yet, im still trying to put a team together. Some units have been designed but not skinned.

Also i have someone willing to do the new campain map.

is this gonna be on RTW BI or MTW2 because thats coming out in 7 months or so

It will proberly be on rtw bi and then we might do another one for mtw2.

i like the sound of the mod but i am already modding Zulu TW so :juggle2: sorry mate! but i will make it my dying goal to follow the mods progress till it haunts you as much as Abokesee's many smilies :laugh4:

Ive been lobbying to do a Persian/Indian mod, if your idea is to include these factions then you definently have my support. I also just bought a bunch of books on the "Genji wars" of Japan.

Do you have any skill in in modding, skining.

Are you realy sure you will be able to finish this mod in 2006 or 2007 - because i doubt in that. Wouldn't it be better to join already existing mod? So many mods have troubles in development due to lack of members. It's better to have 10 mods that are released then 100 that died.

Uranos has a point, and I couldn't exactly call him negative. He's fairly accomplished, especially in his work for Hegemonia.
There are a lot mods out there, and there are a couple that are doing almost exactly the same thing that you are. I don't want to discourage you, but mods pop up all the time that have only one member and no completed work. If you can get some stuff completed first, you will probably be able to get more members, thats how mods usually get started. Goodluck though!

First, beauchamp do you want to be the historian?

Second, i do have a group of factions and the japan part of the map as pictures, soon i will add the faction symbols. At the moment im busy in 'the real world' and im doing this by my self so it could take a little while. I had a campain modder but hes become very busy in 'the real world'.

Id love to. Heres what I propose for Persians. If we are really doing a "Fantasy" mod then I think we should bring in ideas from the Persian Shahnamah or Book of Kings. I have a manuscript and can scan ideas for units but if we are taking fanatsy then the Persians can also control most of the Uzbeki and Afghan troops that are featured in the Shahnama.

From my own experience - and I have some at this point - one can never tell for sure which mods will catch the community's imagination and which ones will quickly vanish. One can say whether the dice are loaded for or against but one can never be certain.

In either case, constructive advice from experienced modders to new people starting a mod would be useful, however would be best placed either in the Mod Discussion forum or in the 'Starting a Modification' thread at the top of this forum so it can instruct all.

Even the largest mods today started off in the head of a single person.

This thread is for OTW development _only_, anything further off this topic will be removed.

I prefer Ilsamiren Wars, but good luck anyhow....

If you're talking about roughly 2k years ago.. the Chinese faction should be called Qin (the correct pinyin)

I can offer some help as historian for chinese factions :P
