Recommended faction?

Reinstalling EB as I post this...

I have only played campaigns as Epeiros thus far (I'm a rabid Pyrhus fan), but in the end I got frustrated by their bugged recruitment roster. IIRC I could not recruit Illyrian thureophoroi, Illyrian thorakotai (sp?) or Chaonean guards anywhere. Illyrian tribal levies stopped being available once you upgraded your MIC in Dalmatia.
Standard thureophoroi could be hired as mercenaries, and IIRC thorakotai were available in some provinces if you destroyed your MIC or government building (forgot wich), but still.
So in the light of this, wich faction should I pick if I want one with the best working recruitment roster?

It seems as though they're all pretty messed and incomplete still, most are missing descriptions. The Getai seemed the most complete to me, though ive stopped playing until the patch comes out. An ancient source is much more fun to read than playing this.

oh, pontus isnt bad either, missing the elites, but seems not so buggy

I recommend the Ptolemies and Baktrians; they really have the best overall appearance of completeness, though Pontus is also in passable shape.

pontos is scheduled for a *lot* more units. There will be a later general unit, the chalkaspidai (a high infantry unit), their own akontistai, peltastai, hippakontistai from greek elements in the population, some other cool things I don't want to mention now, and I'm trying to twist Urnamma's arm for a royal infantry unit as an MIC5 infantry if he can find something reasonable. There are other anatolian regionals, at least two that aren't done yet but are on the way, that will figure into their recruitment a lot more too. They have a lot more to go actually. But they are in a good place to get lots of local units if they install allied governments. So they still are fun. Nikomedia is still a problem now though, but we're still working on unit recruitment in these places.

I'd suggest Koinon Hellenon also. Besides not having the Spartiates or the old-style hoplites yet, they still have most of the other units done. KH and Baktria and Getai do give really good feels for different types of play with good unit lists already complete.

If you want a challenge, I recommend the Pahlava. Equestrian armies to take on two powerhouses: Bactria and the Seleucid empire.

Good to know that Pontos will have more units and heavy foot units because for the moment it's very hard to deal against pezhetairoi with only pantodapoi phalangitai...and I also hope that the scythed chariot will stay in the EB they are really a nice addition to Pontos.

I would suggest Koinon Hellenon. Not all of Koinon Hellenon's unit are in the game yet, but the campaign is a lot of fun. I

Pahlava is a lot of fun. Hard, too. The only thing that I didn't like much about them was the high cost of all cavalry units. It was cheaper and almost as effective just to use foot archers.

I recommend Baktria, without doubt. Not only is it one of the most complete factions available to you, they have a very nice variety of enemies--their equals in the Seleukids, and their nemesis in the Pahlava. It also provides some massive bloodbaths as you fight Seleukeia as they throw army after good army at you, with the armies getting better the further west you go--I've already had armies made up solely of thorakitai and pezhetairoi coming at me, and if not for the fact that argyraspidai are not in the game yet, I think they would be coming at me too.

And, of course, the Pahlava, whose HA can beat almost any cavalry or foot archers you have. So far that's the furthest I've gone, so I can't comment on the other factions yet.

thats good to hear... which of these units you think will make it into the next patch? Pontus has one of the funner campaign games i find(very humble beginings)

Again, no units will be in the patch. You would have to repack the whole thing to get new units or new building graphics. A lot more units are done now though, and will be in our next version release.

good enough...but does that mean that there wont be a cheap transport ship either?

There will be major ship change in next patch.

This has been a great thread for tidbits of info. Additionally, I'll also say that KH is a fun game, even with some units left to go. Very tense at times.

Get over Pyhrrus. BLAH BLAH BLAH I don't care, he was killed by a rooftile, and no matter which way you put that, that's extremely embarassing.

And yeah, KH is a solid game. Sending your droves of Taxeis Hoplitai to hold off the Hetairoi onslaught...

And I made Akrotatos into Akrotatos THE CONQUEROR. I'm loving that warmonger/sated warmonger trait. Really juicy.

Wish I could help you out on that one, but I don't know how or at what point he became "Sated". He just did, and it was a pretty cool trait.

But I'm not surprised it happened in the KH campaign. That stuff is nuts with a capital "N".

And Arverni is a cool campaign, especially if you're a little sick of phalanx orgies. Plus, you're in a nice, vicious war with the Aedui, and will probably tussle with Rome. And they're more fun that the Aedui, because you get to be a Verrix, a GOD-KING. That is far better, in my opinion.

Plus the surrounding independents ain't to be snuffed at. Either a troublesome nuisance or a convenient buffer. The only downside to the Arverni is their lone little fleet of transports in the Meditterranean, which can't be disbanded since you have no ports, and just rack up your debt worse than your girlfriend shopping.

i'd recommend Macedon

1. if you are annoyed by the unfinished aesthetics of the game, its a good pick. I like the eastern empires for their cultural diversity, but eventually get annoyed by the sight of a baktrian "numidian" general speaking in english about the potential conquests of rome.

2. with Macedon what you see is what you get, a greek faction with greek pics, and greek battle speeches

also with macedon they seem to command unwielding respect for some reason. Rome capitulated with 2 provinces left and a full stack. Epieros capitulated with 1 province and a full stack. I currently have a baktrian empire covering from the eastern and northern edges of the map, down to the indian ocean and west past Seleucia. Pahlav with 1 province and 0 units fails to accept the terms. Yuezhi with no army and 1 province also refused to accept, in which they were moved into the extinction list.

I think sated warmonger happens when a warmonger kicks enough ass. I got it as pontus after my general fought his way to the crimea, conquered it, and then conquered armenia

I think you need to get her the Sated/Shopper Trait or possibly get her the Girlfriend/Ex Trait -3 Influence.Unfortunatly this leads to the Woman Scorned Trait: May boil small domesticated pets :laugh4:

Yes, but the Woman Scorned Trait also leads to highest Command possible, which THEN results in the Total Control trait. and only a viscious bloody campaign on your part can take that away.

Or get your wives/girlfriends into EB! My wife got sick of RTW after a while, but she's quite interested in EB since I have been blathering away about the greatly enhanced traits, the new units and buildings, and the four seasons (she really did not like the two seasons of vanilla RTW).

On topic: The Romani are great!

• Neat units - Roman units are quite fun, the early formations (h/p/t + light troops) give you a lot of variety in forming your line and you can take a historical recreation approach to your battle-plans, or just freely experiment. The current lack of dedicated auxiliaries to be recruited can be easily dealt with by recruiting Gallic or Hellenistic skirmisher, archer, and light cavalry and infantry units.
• Triumphs, and other trait-stuff - I think the Roman submissions are really excellent since they have been a real inspiration for me to move outside my strategic "comfort zone" in order to make my leading commanders into heroic personalities. I think they also give an interesting glimpse of some rather fascinating aspects of Roman society; the same is true, to a lesser extent, of the cursus honorum and the various corona.
• Challenging strategic situation - Rome is situated in the middle, and has a lot of options about where to go and what to do. A would-be imperator can concentrate on Gaul, or Illyria, or take sea voyages to despoil Greece or Carthage or Iberia. The way Roman legions are recruited also presents its own problems (i.e. challenges, i.e. fun!).

Going the Romani is a great choice, I think.

I agree, now that my Romani campaign is in full speed ahead. You're always forced to return to the motherland before the coming of Marius to retrain or replenish, and that makes long-distance campaigns ever that difficult and challenging since there's always the chance of a counterattack from the enemy.

That is the most funny thing I think I've ever read on the internet. The best thing is, it sounds like a joke, but it is true!

Oh well, just wait a few more releases, eventually the EB team will iron it out.
