Simon Appleton: Has his own agenda...please read, fix

I was given two warnings from Simon Appleton today...neither was justified...here's the proof:

first one:

some of you need to stop saying that most games take less than 200 turns. when people play on H or VH (especially vh/vh) games usually do span 450-500 years. Many times it's a close call at the end.

When you play on "sandbox mode" (medium) it shouldn't take you very long...it's the default difficulty pretty much designed to be a shorter, easier campaign.

It's posts like these that give CA the idea that people want a faster campaign...for the most part (look around here and the .com) people do not.

I personally would like MTW2 to be 4 turns per year, 600-700 turns. I would LOVE RTW's campaign map strategy combined with MTW2 and building a major empire in europe over the course of months of playtime.

I really wish some of the obviously "younger" and more interested in "candy" clickfest players would just shuffle on to other games. This game was never about your AOE berry gathering 1 hour game.

All you're doing is convincing CA that you DO want a dumbed down game...stop, and graze elsewhere.

Again, the bottom line is that if turns replace years (sorry, but whoever thought of this first should be drawn and quartered, not debatable either) and the campaign is limited to 225 turns (again, only a totally incompetent developer would even consider this...he should be shot) They're going to lose about 50 percent of their fanbase for MTW2 before the game even ships. Nobody is going to accept the entire game being dumbed down and changed, with absolutely NO explanation as to why from the devs.

I swear it...unless this changes, I will never play another TW game. However, we have been here before as a community, not knowing what the future holds in the series and what not...but CA is not saying that this is something they're "considering"...they said openly "this is the way it's going to be" before they got ANY feedback from anyone. So the fact of the matter is 1) they couldn't care less what the community as a whole wants, they only create the kind of game THEY envision and we already know they're incompetent and 2) They're just stuffing an AOE clickfest down our throats...don't like it? tough. They are basically destroying the sub genre that this game created. Why? I simply will not stop posting why all over the .com until it's answered.

All I see is sidestepping by wiki and the other CA reps. That's it. They will read 500 posts all going "NO WAY!! you're NOT doing this with this game, I won't buy it!!" and then they finally reply, to the 500 posts by saying something like "seiges look good"...nobody cares. It's just avoiding the issue.

I personally don't want to see Wiki post one more time, anywhere, unless it's going to be to fully and honestly explain why they just destroyed the series. I have to be honest, other than to get this question answered, I don't think anyone would even care if wiki dropped off the face of the earth, know I wouldn't. He has one purpose to this community...answer the questions. His 2c and socialising are not what he's here for.

as you clearly see there I did NOT wish anything upon anyone. I said that people couldn't care less if he did or not...that's different. The point I was making was that we're not really concerned with his personal opinions on life, we ONLY want direct answers regarding MTW2...responding to 250 people's concerns with "im loving the game so far" is unacceptable. This is an unjustified warning, and the warning message itself proves that. I was warned for wishing that org members fall off the face of the earth. I didn't do such. Please remove the warning or I will just leave the community...I will not be bullied by an anal moderator you simply....doesn't like the post personally.

Apparently this guy Prasthereaper (CA guy?, check the post "CA clarifies turns") posted about the turns, saying "The game is currently paced to be a 225 turn game, and is optimally played at that length. All this information is still being kept in .txt files." To me at least, that implies 2 important things:

a) The games is "paced" to end around 225, but not capped at 225 turns.
b) Turn and time variables are in a .txt file, which if they're like the MTW .txt files, means this aspect of the game will be easily modable.

Time will tell, but I think that gives more than a glimmer of hope that, if you don't like how CA does it, you can easily change it to what you want.


the problem is exactly that...it "implies" things. Why do they flat out refuse to just tell us what they're doing?

1 reason: Because they ARE doing exactly what 99.8 percent of the community is stating is enough to make the definitely not buy the game. So now they have to think of a new marketing strategy to effectively "fool" the majority of the community into believing that our suspicions are not true (aka lying through their teeth).

remember when the load/save/siege bug was a "feature"?

I would like someone to show me ONE place that it says in the terms of usage agreement that "accusing CA of lying through their teeth" is against the terms of service. I feel they are...and they've been caught in lies in the past (seige bug was a feature, remember...they got caught lying since they fixed it). Another unjustified warning.

I just want this fixed....he has absolutely NO right to just make up his own rules as we go along.

You are (in)directly insulting anybody who disagrees with your opinion of how TW games should be played. They have explained their reasons, it is you who stubbornly ignores any explanations because they do not follow your vision.

The way I see it, you insulted wikiman and Simon.
wikiman can post whatever opinion he has (within the rules), he is in no way obliged to give any game info whatsoever. To say his posts are unacceptable is rude and arrogant. We try to be as polite as possible to the CA patrons because we want something from them. Being here and posting isn't something we can take for granted. Most developers don't do it.
I think the "anal moderator" comment should've got you banned right away.
Oh, and threatening to leave is really futile. There may be some who can't care less. :no:

I'm sorry to have so angered you, General4Hire. You were warned for breaking two forum rules: no flaming and no CA bashing.

The first warning point was saying that no one would mind if Wikiman dropped dead. In the PM I sent you which you quote here, I tried to explain why that was objectionable. I'm sorry you can't see that.

The second warning point was for accusing CA of lying through their teeth and spouting garbage. Saying someone is lying is a pretty strong accusation: in the UK House of Commons, an MP will be expelled if he accuses another MP of lying. Coupling the accusation with the charge that CA was involved in "garbage" clearly pushed it into the CA bashing category in my opinion.

In respect of these warnings, there are two parts to my agenda:

Firstly, common courtesy - if someone had accused General4Hire of lying+spouting garbage or said they & everyone else would not mind if he dropped dead, I would also have intervened.

Secondly, trying to make the M2TW forum a place where CA staff feel inclined to drop by and discuss their work. That is unlikely to happen if, when the relevant CA rep does stop by here, for only his second post, he is greeted by such over the top posts - saying no one would mind him dropping dead and that he is lying through his teeth.

General4hire.I suggest you read the Forum rules before you start accusing Moderators for being unjust.

I have great respect for Simon Appleton, and I quasi-agree with him while understanding the point of General4Hire.

I would be most curious to find out if SA had given a non-point warning to G4H in the past on similar stuff.

I see the point, but it just seems a tad over the top.

That said, I would recommend the following: If you have an issue with a mod, take it up with them via PM and use tact. The mods are just trying to keep it civil here. I've been a jerk myself here too, been given god knows how many warnings and even been banned for a couple of days.

Fair enough.

Look at it this way: You are in another's house. You are a guest. We are all guests. Let's be cordial and enjoy the party. Sometimes the host gets rubbed the wrong way over something minor- fine. The admin has the right to do what is necessary.

More often than not, policy is maintained with tact and respect for the patrons, and nearly always with consistency and equality.

General4Hire tried to solve his differences with Simon Appleton through a PM, but failed to convince him that his posts were not offensive. Therefore he posted his warnings in the watchtower to show everyone that the warnings were unfair, plus SA's PM to show that he had communicated with the responsible moderator. Unfortunatly for him, public opinion was not on his side either.

Shambles apparently cannot PM because his box his full (when you get a certain number of warning points your PM storage becames very small).

Incidentally, I do think that this is flogging a dead horse. It is almost three weeks since the complaint was posted or any serious discussion took place.

I agree: IMO it's bad form to post PMs without permission, except in certain special circumstances. One of which would be PMs from a Staff Member on official business. In any case, as Ludens point out, these were warnings, which happen to be copied to the patron via the PM system, rather than normal PMs.

With my twisted sense of humour, I do find it highly entertaining that it looks like Kukri posted this thread! :grin2:

Here it is possible to be quite critical of CA, this is often done.
General just needing to mind language a bit.
You get away with implications of CA not saying truth, especial if you say how and why, and you must back such thing up with fact!

You think this place is oppressive? I do not say that the .com boards are oppressive, but moderating is less tolerant of critical things there.

Org moderators do so great job, almost always "spot on". :2thumbsup:
