Baa baa rainbow sheep???
Quote:
TRADITIONAL nursery rhymes are being rewritten at nursery schools to avoid causing offence to children.
Instead of singing “Baa baa, black sheep” as generations of children have learnt to do, toddlers in Oxfordshire are being taught to sing “Baa baa, rainbow sheep”.
Quote:
In keeping with the new approach, teachers at the nurseries have reportedly also changed the ending of Humpty Dumpty so as not to upset the children and dropped the seven dwarfs from the title of Snow White.

I don't know about you lot, but I think they've gone potty.:dizzy2:
I found this interesting.

This is not the first time, however, that the nursery rhyme — written in 1744 satirising the taxes imposed on wool exports — has fallen foul of political correctness. In 2000 Birmingham City Council tried to ban the rhyme, after claiming that it was racist and portrayed negative stereotypes. The council rescinded the ban after black parents said it was ludicrous.
I have never heard anyone, black, brown, white or skybluepink complain about these rhymes. Another case of white middle England getting it totally wrong, methinks.

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
What in the heck is going on over there? I mean honestly, what 5 year old child seriously considers racism even a matter of subject? Unless of course it was pounded into their heads when they were born.
I've heard of a black sheep before as much as I've heard about a black human, but I've never heard of a black or interacial child being known as a rainbow child...
-
Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
Yes, totally wrong. As the article says, it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with wool taxes.
The problem lies in our language. The word Black is a colour and you can't leave it as the sole moral property of ethnic Africans. The fact that Black also means negative and "evil" in our culture has to do with our western fear of the night and nothing to do with race.

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
Reminds me of the aide to the mayor of Washington D.C. who was fired in 1999 because he used the word "niggardly". Apparently a number of city workers confused this word with the word ... well, ... with another word.

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
Hehe, at 5 december we celebrate 'Sinterklaas' (yes, that is how you got your Santaclaus) who was a has 'zwarte pieten' as helpers, yes zwart means black. Of course an centuries old tradition isn't meant to offend people that just got here, so the helpers should be 'happy' piets from now on. The multicultists somehow never understood that they where black because they were chimney cleaners :laugh4:

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
That's just discriminatory. There should be white soot as well. I feel oppressed now. :laugh4:

Re : Baa baa rainbow sheep???
What have sheep got to do with Africans?
What's next? Banning the word 'white elephant' as stereotyping Europeans? Banning chess as incitement to racial hatred?
Some people....:wall:

Maybe we should let an ambassador of every nation in the world leave trough the chimney to achieve true equality with this particular festival :idea2:

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
when i was a child race meant nothing to me it was easy , now im a lot older everyone keeps talking about political correctness, and im worried about offending people by being accidentally racist! if you keep fussing about it, it will only make the kids more concious of it, thats what happened to me. We have to face that we are different from each other and we should be allowed to talk about that without it being considered verging on racism after all everyone is equal but different, (this goes for religions and nations too)

Perhaps you need political re-education. It's ok to stereotype whites, Christians, white Christian businessmen/lawyers, white French (yes I said it!), and white Christian Ame....well all Americans I guess.
Speaking of white people; what's their problem? Have they gone so limp wristed that they live in constant fear of offending someone? I agree with the Merc: Racism is learned. Kids can be cruel because they are more emotional, but none are born racist.
-
Re: Re : Baa baa rainbow sheep???
While they're at it, why not yellow and brown and white as well? Surely only protecting the African race is unfair to all other races?

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
In my opinion, if people would just shut up about how big of a problem racism is, it would mostly go away, and we could all just stop doing stupid things like worrying about a black sheep.

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
This sort of thing happens all the time, along with Winterval for Christmas etc. Margaret Hodge MP banned black bin liners when she was leader of islington council. Its all so much easier to play these games than actually doing anything worthwhile.
No surprise it's Oxfordshire either, which is jam packed full of tree hugging lentil eating beardie weirdies IMHO.
Oh no, I'm beardist...

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
it is rather amusing that you can call white people anything and still not be racist. What's up with that?

Actually Santa Claus is the Spanish for Saint Nicholas, sorry.
Louis VI the Fat, clearly Chess incites racial hatred, my word, when I play I have balck whight veined marble fighting white black veined marble.
I think its true that id you shut up abour racism it mostly goes away. There will always be some suspicion and steriotyping of different cultures but that is fairly innocent and natural and it goes away as soon as you get to know people.

Spain and Holland have a history, and 'Sinterklaas' only comes from Spain in our folklore (he was in fact Turkish). The actual Santaclaus was very much imported by dutch immigrants, just like the christmas tree is an old germanic custom.

Re: Baa baa rainbow sheep???
this is fuss over nothing.
i heard a statement from the people at the nursery this afternoon... and they alter the song lyrics all the time, and refer to the sheep variously as black, white, brown, orange, red, green and so on, and yes, rainbow...
So it's a fun story, but signifies absolutely nothing

I agree. The divide is only increased by screaming about it. "Black leaders" profit from this divide, and so prey on ignorance and seek to inflame the black masses.
I couldn't care less if seomone is balck or white. We should all get EQUAL treatment under the law. Noone should be favored because of race.
I hope our new mostly evil white man supreme court hears an affirmative action case soon enough to destroy it forever!
All we need is Ginsburg to vanish into the liberal lair from whence her wretched self hath slithered.

Nobody complained about racism 2000 years ago, yet it still existed.
Barbarian scum anyone?

Children are quite possibly the perfect measure of the human brain at it's most pure 'id-like' state, untainted by society and the superego. Interestingly though, a study conducted by the BBC series "child of our time" found children to be inherently racist. They showed children (not just white children either) a series of photographs of other children from varying racial backgrounds and asked them simple questions like: "which is the naughty one?", "which would you most like to play with?", "which is the nicest?" and there was an undeniable trend where bad characteristics were placed on other races and positive characteristics were assigned to their own. This would seem to indicate that racism is natural and, conversely, tolerance is learned.
This trend could perhaps be followed at a societal level too, in that races don't mix except for where our superego and societal pressures tell us we must. For example the movement from white woman/black male relationships being wholly unacceptable to becoming relatively common, whereas black woman/white man relationships are still very rare. I would theorise that this stems from a perception of the ownership of women by men, and the relative strength within the two races: whites are perpetually forced to feel a collective sense of guilt for perceived past wrong doings, one of the repentences of which is to effectively 'give away' our women to those who we supposedly harmed (this could suggest that the femenist movement was in fact, paradoxically, started by white males). No such feeling exists in the black community so there is no such social movement there. These social message is amplified by white dominance of society and especially the media, where black males are often portrayed as the epitome of manliness and perfection (quite the oposite to their portrayal in days gone by) and are often, when pictured in a couple, with a white woman, who are of course portrayed as a paragon of womanly virtue. This subconscious manipulation of white women's minds: encouraging them to find a black partner is what, in my opinion, causes the disparity between volumes of black woman/white male relationships and their opposite, and likewise similar manipulation is what has caused modern perceptions towards racism and ultimately led to the idocy of this song.
