ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
I, ZainDustin, would like to be the Arcade Manager. I have been talking with TosaInu about it, and he has agreed that I could be the manager if I can get the public's support. So, anyone who plays the Arcade, please vote Yes or No. TosaInu has told me that to end the voting, I either need to get 30 Yes's or 20 No's. Once I reach one of those limits, the answer will be decided. So, please, VOTE! I will sit here in nervous anticipation... :book:
I plan on starting some Tournaments, quicker score deletions for whenever mess ups occur, and I plan on trying to find more exciting games! Comments are welcome, I can answer any questions you have.
:laugh4:
Thanks

Erm, so what happens if not enough people vote? We leave this question open until they do? Are only people who use the Arcade eligible to vote?

That would seem to be a fairly good summary of the job that a Arcade manager should do, but doesn't really say anything about your suitability for the job.

Why is the voting public: should this not be by secret ballot? Also, why have you voted for yourself: if you need public support, surely that does not include yourself?

It makes sense that people who use the Arcade vote, only. And, I think that the voting will go on until enough people vote.

Like you yourself said, it matters whether someone wants to do the job. And, in the past I have managed my own MSN Group website. It was a Dragonball Z RPG that went on well for atleast a year, before interest in the actual show dropped. I know how to work programs and stuff, don't worry.

I need to monitor whether the people who vote actually use the Arcade, so their vote counts or not. I voted for myself only so I can check the results.

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
I voted yes.
On a side note, I do use the arcade. I used to hold the highscore on that xsnowballfightx game.
-
Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
I've played a few of the games in the arcade. I don't have any high scores (I may even have a few of the lowest scores), but if someone wants to make the better I say ...Yes

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
You forgot the Gah! option. You obviously are not ready for .Org responsibilities yet, I may just have to vote No for that... ~;)

Lol, I actually thought of that, but that would have ruined a few votes, that could have helped me. You know.

Lol, I'll only beat you legally. Don't worry, I won't be cheating with this rank.

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
I voted no.
I'd have thought that one person being 'arcade manager' and champion and active user would present a rather unfortunate and massive conflict of interests.
Plus, it is my personal opinion that almost anyone who feels the need to put themselves forward for a position is invariably the worst person for the job (plus I find self-promotion rather vulgar).
Sorry, but I don't think it would be a very good idea.

So, by your logic no person should ever apply for a job? Furthermore, no person should ever pursue their own ambitions and interests?
I won't argue about the conflict of interests, but that point is only relevant if being arcade manager somehow would contribute towards his scores or something similar- an "edge" over others.
The rest of your argument is prettty silly.

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
At this site, I always thought the admins and higher people decided who would be the best candidate. They would then offer the job to that person.
I've never seen anyone put themselves forward to be a moderator.
I'm with thrashaholic, but as I don't use the arcade very often, I won't vote.

That's silly. Where on earth would we be if enterprising men and women didn't step up to bat now and then and say, "I'll do it!" We'd still be a bunch of hunter-gatherers, that's where we'd be.
I'd vote yes, but I can't for two reasons. (1) There is no Gah! option, and (2) I don't use the arcade. Yet. Go Zain!

That is the case for Staff Moderators. It's not uncommon at all for AMs and various other positions to be filled by (self)nomination and/or poll of the Membership.

Hasn't stopped 5 people (3 for, 2 against) voting thus far...
I have no problem with either ZainDustin suggesting that we have a more active manager of the Arcade or with him proposing himself for the job. If he's willing to do the job, and take the potential flak when it comes his way, then great.
Which is not to say I have no problems with this poll. In fact, I have 4: it's restricted to only current arcade players, which seems pointless to me (the 5 ineligibles who've voted so far could play a quick game of Tetris and have their vote stand); it's a public poll, which may unduly affect the voting; it has bizarre ending criteria, as it's entirely possible that < 30 in total will vote, much less 30 in favour of ZainDustin (only 27 voted in the recent well publicised custom avatar poll); and lastly, but certainly not least, it's not a real contest, as there seems to be no alternative. We are presented with a choice of either ZainDustin or nobody.
If absolutely no one else wants the job, I say just give it to ZainDustin.

I believe this was Tosa's suggestion. Although he specified people who were in the top 50 in the arcade.

Indeed, although Zain mentions "anyone who plays the Arcade" is eligible. If that is incorrect, it would be helpful if there was some clarification of that point. If it is only the top 50, however, I honestly can't see how he can win (or lose). Of the 20 votes in three days, only 7 are in current the top 50: Sasaki Kojiro, Crazed Rabbit, thrashaholic, Duke John, Reenk Roink, ZainDustin, and DemonArchangel.

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
Yes.
But no matter who is the arcade admin, PLEASE get rid of my click santa score. It was a bug.
-
Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
Please find me "silly" as well but I think that it's not appropriate to forward yourself for a position in a forum. It's my very own mentality that such jobs should be offered if necessary. However this is only about my way of behavior -a way of differentiation as an individual.
I'm not into arcade. Nor do I want to mess something up here. I just wanted to say. Sorry if offends any of you.

Not that I want the post, but surely then we should all be allowed the opportunity to nominate ourselves and then have a vote, to allow the most enterprising person to get the job.
I'd put it to you that we'd be even further down the evolution chain were we to always give positions of authority to the first person who asked, especially if that position of authority was created by suggestion of said person. That in itself is a conflict of interests, self-promotion always is.
I don't want anyone to take any of this personally, but I think if we are going to elect someone for this post, we ought to it fairly and correctly.

Where is the "Hell yes, for my Texas friend" option?
Go for it man!:2thumbsup:

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
Thanks guys! We need 11 more YES votes and I will be the next Arcade Manager.
And to those who doubt, I wouldn't do this if I hadn't have already talked to Tosa about it.
11 more! Come on guys!

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
To be honest, im with Thrash and the others who have pointed out that its a little fishy to nominate one's self for a position like this. Let there be a propper vote, and if then Zain gets elected Im sure he would do a great job, I just dont like this whole self promotion malarky. I mean, you even advertised it in the tavern backroom... :dizzy2: Thats just phoney.:inquisitive:

Re: ZainDustin for Arcade Manager
It's not phony Martyr. I just want more votes cuz it's taking a long time to get to the limit.
Please people, no one else has come up and said, I'D LIKE THE JOB. Or anything. Atleast I'm willing to do it.

I do not think that anyone is questioning that you've spoken to Tosa. But the point of this vote apparently for the (top 50?) arcade players to express their confidence in you should you take charge of the Arcade, arranging competitions, editing scores and so on. From what Tosa has said publicly, I got the impression that he has no objection to there being an arcade manager per se and no specific objection to you fulfilling the role, so long as you have the support of your fellow Arcade players. But I've not seen him positively endorse you, which is an impression one could form from your Backroom post: "and Tosa agrees".

As I say above, a number of people who've voted aren't current Arcade players, so the required number is somewhat higher than 11, how many more depends on whether they need to be in the top 50 or not.
Edit: I accept that you are willing to do the job, perhaps more so than anyone else, especially given no one else has come forward to offer their services. But I'd personally like more info about what you actually intend to do as arcade manager. For instance, how do you plan to run the competitions, particularly as the possibility of cheating looms large over the arcade at present. How will you chose the games to be played? What about score editing: will it only be if a Member admits to you that the score is false, or will you remove any score you believe to be false? What will you do if one Member accuses another of cheating, but there is no conclusive evidence either way? These are the type of questions I'd like to see answers to.

I plan on starting 5 tournaments as soon as I get "Inaugurated", based on their popularity. During these tournaments, I will be going through and removing scores that are impossible to get. These include my Arkanoid score, my Apple Hunt score, and a few that aren't mine. I will start, and if I have the authority to, stick this thread to the top, of an Arcade discussion thread, where you talk about games you would like, scores that are bogus, and what games need to get deleted. I will also be finding new games to add, delete the old games that won't work, and make it more exciting.
All I want to do is get involved with the Arcade, and make it more exciting to members. I will not be cheating with this title, because I like to think that others don't either. If someone accuses someone else of cheating, I will personally check out the "faulty" scores and decide whether they should be kept or not. I can tell if they were cheated scores, because of the amount of time it gets to get the score, and in some games, it is impossible to get certain scores, for example Somebody Else's score on Shuriken Challenge, or Tiberius's score on Click Santa.
I hope I have answered all questions.
