hello all!
can anyone tell me if the casse can recruit their own cavalry or can they only be bought as mercenerys by generals? also is there a tech tree or explanation on which buildings do what available for the faction anywhere? (iknow about the one in the buildings browser!) i'm using the new 7.4 patch.

Welcome to the boards!
All the units aren't complete yet for the Casse, including cavalry. In future builds, they will have their own cavalry. And I think the building browser is currently the only way to know what troops are available no? Unless somebody releases a recruitment guide map for all the factions like the one for Pontos in the guides sub-forum.

I don't think any factions are finished yet if I remember correctly the most "finished " though are the Ptolemies and the Bactrians.
Yup, most aren't even close to being finished.
I'd hasitaguess the Hellenes / Greeco-Macedonians are probably the closest.
Poor ole Aymar is frantically trying to imput a rather-large-non-descript-amount of units for the next build. So if you see his ragged frame shuffle through the community, he could probably use some encouragment.

I tried the eBaums world forums but everybody there causes trouble and you're allowed to swear so that didn't work out, i can't cause trouble here because... they will proabbly be in a text file somewhere (maybe do a search for a file with a key word from the quote in it?), which quote are you trying to get?

as to the casse, i hope they have a nice unit or two added, i gota say i am impressed with the 0.74 patch so much more stable, only had one CTD. yeh go get em casse :D
Nah i was just kidding, i don't troll anymore i'm a changed man... I never was intent on causing trouble there in the first place, some of the older members purposely posted replies to my threads/comments to provoke me so that i would get into trouble, then they went over to one of the old members website called the pond and bragged about it, but instead of warning the people who were doing it i got warned and banned all the time instead of them. Anyway bygones. I don't play vanilla anymore so those forums are useless to me..
Not to send the thread off topic though, i have a question of the Casse. Are their generals still chariots? I cannot stand chariots so intensely that i refuse to play any faction which forces you to use them as generals guards, which is a real shame because i want to play the Casse...

believe me the m2tw forums are a sh*thole at the moment mate, theres no point posting anyway.the ponds ok and yeh the casse still have yonder chairots, which i like but nevermind :)
at the moment im fighting the averni in france as the casse, have taken the top four coastal city's but am fighting heavily to keep them :( calawre's are chairots are the things keeping the horders back, but very expensive :(
Yes, and they will stay that way. However, the vanilla heavy chariot will be replaced by one armed with javelins (lots of them) and morale modifiers for both friendly and enemy troops, so I don't think they will be as much of a liability as they are now.Quote:

Is there any actual proof that the ancient British used chariots other than for their general? I thought a chariot would be like a symbol of status, something only the warlord of a tribe would use in battle... The rest would be using cavalry... Just a theory though i may be completely wrong. If i was a warlord i would want simple cavalry rather than chariots... Easier to maintain and to be quite honest more effective in battle... Even a fool could see that.
The Casse obviously disagreed. Off course, they didn't have much choice, lacking the strong horses needed to carry an armoured cavalry man. In such a case, what would you chose to do with your best equiped men: strip them off their armour and put them on horses so they can chuck a few javelins at the enemy; or put them on chariots so you get highly mobile heavy infantry? The British chose the second and let the less wealthier men form the light cavalry.Quote:

Caesar makes copious mention of British chariots. There were not one or two chariots in a British army, there were a great deal of them. Then, the mounted noble or champion could dismount his chariot and use his superior armor and weapons to give his men an edge (since his presence also inspired his companions). We cannot imitate the dismount from the chariot, but we can imitate the other effects; a mobile skirmishing platform that lowers enemy morale, and raises allied morale. There are plenty of ways to destroy a chariot, but it was not so simple, and that still had use, and were of great value to the Britons when they fought the Romans. Also, heavy cavalry was not totally non-existent in Britain, it was simply either very very rare, or very late period. In the earlier case, it was probably mercenaries (Belgae or Gauls), in the later case it was fleeing Belgic and Gallic nobles, or those who copied them. Chariots will be getting a stat rework once we get the new ones in, and a lot of testing, so we'll try and get them working appropriately.
That said, I think a lot of people will probably still complain, because no one seems to use them appropriately. Many Casse units are not to be used conventionally; like their heavy infantry. You can throw it at things, it's good stuff, but, that won't do much good. They're very expensive. The point is to send them at an enemy, accompanied by lighter, cheaper units, which they raise the morale of, to keep them fighting longer. It's more cost effective and can win you quite a number of fights.
For cavalry; in Britain, they will get light skirmishers on horseback. Not that great, but not totally useless. Javelin attack will be okay, but terrible melee. They will get, in Belgica, Belgic cavalry, which is similar, but superior, and some nice Remi cavalry. They can always hire Gallic mercenaries too.

I wasn't aware that Britain only had small horses incapable of carrying an armoured man in battle... All makes sense now. Still i may play them sometime after the final version... I can always hire belgic cavalry or cheap nasty skirmisher cavalry... If you wait long enough until the enemy is wavering even the crappest of the crap can make them rout... :sweatdrop:
Not sure i'd want it now after hearing how the casse chariots are going to be modified a bit but previously i was wondering if the bodyguard upgrade for casse could be used to make them brihentin if/after they took a suitably sized province on the mainland, seeing as the lack of good horses was the main reason they still used chariots.
Definitely not sure i would want this now even if it was possible as the whole morale management thing with the casse is an interesting factional difference as soon as you get used to the idea of not actually using your general's chariots as a viable weapon.
We can't change bodyguards with triggers, and, the morale management thing might weaken a bit then. That's largely the 'unique' factor of the Casse. All Celtic societies are hero cultures, but the Britons were quite much so to a great point. It means that the Casse, unsupported by their morale modifiers, are pretty weak, but with them, they can be more powerful than numerous enemies. One unit they'll have eventually is a nude spearmen unit, which frightens enemy infantry; otherwise cheap, and poorly defended, but if used in conjunction with other units, that can provide a nice punch.
Will there be a chariot unit for mainland celts or are they restricted to Casse ?
If I'm correct the last record of mainland celts using chariots in 225 BC at Telamon.

They're a bit too weak currently, having javelins will make them far more useful and powerful though.
