----I think i have made a discovery!!----

Well, firstly i apologise if this is all known throughout the community (and boy I would be stupid:embarassed: ) but i accidentally seem to have found something quite useful concerning sprites

While modding units, i realised that my sabine warriors didnt seem to have a sprite, or, rather, it was a very good one. Most sprites make the RTW engine look quite old and Medieval TW like, as you cannot see an overhead battle in much detail.

Belive me, it may not look impressive, but go into your descr_model_battle file and remove the lines concerning sprites. e.g

DELETE the line in red. In battle, the results are very impressive

Have you checked what it does to your FPS when you remove these sprites ??? You need a very powerfull PC/Graphics card to paly the game with out sprites and not everyone's PC can handle it.

I think you should read the tutorial section, you will see this is nothing new.

And you will get a significant performance hit if you play with Larger unit settings than 40 men, try the 160 unit setting or Huge, and then make 2 full 20 unit armies. Have them fight, one battle with sprites and one battle without, and let me know the performance you get. :book:

well, my PC can bearly handle a full 20 unit battle anyways, but normally on smaller battles of say 500 men it is fine.

Why just not make new sprites using sprite editor?

Removing sprites seriously affects the preformance of RTW, my mod TW suffers from a lack of performance as it does not have sprites in its current version, though i am now working on them for 4.0, sprites really increase the performance, and battles without them can be very laggy.
