A Question of General Morale...

A thought occurred about the impact of a general's death on the morale of his troops....does the death of a one star general have the same morale penalty as the death of a 6 star general?

If so, should it be so?

I would have thought that given the greater morale boost imparted by a more experienced and more able general reflects not only the faith, loyalty and admiration of his charges, his death should have a much greater impact on the morale of the troops than the death of some inexperienced new general who has just bought his commission.....

something to be looked at in MTW2 perhaps?

I personally have thought about this as well. And, yes, it does make total sense that the morale deduction should have different variations depending on General influence and stuff.

I believe that there should definently should be something like this in MTW2.

Well you get the penalty plus losing his bonuses which would include a few morale ones.

So a more experienced General dieing will have a larger net effect on morale then a lesser one.

Mind you it could be argued that the morale of the troops is in part from their training prior to the battle and this should not evaporate... some of this is expressed by their honour/chevrons, but I do think the greater generals effect should not automatically disappear.

It would be interesting to have a high up virtue that has an ability triggered on the death of the general.

"This individual inspires such intense loyalty in his troops, +4 morale. If the general dies in battle his troops will in grief and anger fight to the death to avenge him."

Or

"This man should never have been allowed to lead people, certainly not into war. If the general dies his troops will start a Mexican wave and celebrate the victory of the enemy with large quantities of ale. (instant loss of the battle)"

Nice thoughts their, but both are too extreme.

I am not quite sure how it works in R:TW, but in M:TW the general gave two morale bonusses: one for troops in his vicinity, dependent on his amount of command stars, and one for all troops, caused by specific V&V's. If he died, the first one instantly disappeared, but the second one remained. Also, the troops would lose their valour bonus conferred by the general's command ability (roughly +1 valour for each two stars, but without the morale bonus of "ordinary" valour) and incur a morale penalty for general's death. Disciplined troops suffered less from this, though.
