IIRC, Scythed Chariots behave in the same way as elephants, meaning they can run amok rather easily, especially if there's fire.
Light the battlefield up and watch the fun as the chariots take out their own army.
Pontus has Scythed chariots...or it did have:laugh4:

One chariot 'amok' takes out another. Two for the price of one. And they went and caused damage to the reinforcing Pontus army in the distance.
Two units of archers, one on fire arrows, two scorpions and two ballistae really meant they had no chance of getting to my units.
Arrows. Flaming arrows.
I've never run into them myself, playing the Western or Mid-West factions more. I'd guess that the SCs are best dealt with fire arrows. If they're close to your troops, lure them into a phalanx with your cheapest missile unit (probably going to be a jav unit).
I just use flaming arrows, makes them run amok and rush through their own lines. :skull:
Flaming arrows as mentioned before do the trick.
One could also deploy pike units, dead horses guaranteed.
:balloon2:
I can only echo what the others above me have said. Shoot them down.
Phalanxes, especially pike phalanxes stop chariots reasonably well. Otherwise, keep in mind that a lot of (all?) Javelin units get an anti-chariot bonus. The trick there is to get the javelineers to get their missiles thrown without getting run over. Though I suppose amoking them with flaming arrows works well enough.
but the thing not to do is go anywhere near them with your cavalry. I am sure that well over 50% of my dead generals are due to them getting mixed up with chariots.
Chariots are only dangerous when moving, once stopped they are vulnerable, so i usually just try to get my lower cost heavy infantry onto them as soon as possible, eg early legionaries. I find it doesn't usually take long after that.
1) Javelin
Not wise.
2) Flaming Arrows / Long range normal arrows
As mentioned above. Its Safer.
3) Swamp It
With infantry, preferably phalanxes, heavy infantry.
4) Elephants
3 + 4
Phalanxes eat them for lunch, but I prefer to make them run amok with fire arrows. I once used my archers to make an enemy's scythed chariots go running amok while still inside a city's gates.
When they finally left the town (still going amok), there was almost none of the enemy left alive.:laugh4:
Pin them down with throw-away units such as peasants, then pick them off at your discretion. As mentioned above, once these chariots are bogged-down, they will literally fall to pieces in no time whatsoever. This is because of a lack of mount armour; even though the crews are heavily armoured, this counts for nothing if the horse (or whatever the mount is) has limited armour and hitpoints. Vanilla RTW neglects many areas such as this.
