World domination
When you have technically completed the game have you ever just gone all out and tried take over the whole world.
At the moment I’m trying to take over everywhere the Romans did and then defend for a while and then the world.
And what happens when you destroy all the factions?

Re: World domination
Ive played these campaigns:
RTW Prologue - until won
RTW Julii Imperial M/M - until won (Rome capture made 50th region)
RTW Brutii Imperial H/H - until won (Rome capture made 53rd region)
Currently playing RTW Egypt Imperial VH/VH. Might loose, might stop, might go on....too early to say. Main objective is to play over all the zones in the east end of the map..have played over all the rest.
-
Re: World domination
I play any faction till it gets 'boringly-easy'.
Carthage VH/VH: Till I had Italy and most of Spain.
Roman Julii VH/VH: Till I had most of Europe.
Roman Scipii VH/VH: Till I had Greece, North africa and some of Asia Minor.
Seleuceds VH/VH: Never actually won it.. I think I never tried too hard anyway.
Scythia VH/VH: When I started pushing Romans back.
Pontus VH/VH: Till I destroyed Egypt.
Those are about all the campaigns in RTW.
In BI:
Sassaidns VH/VH: Just took Anitoch and the southern part of ERE.
Vandals VH/VH: Currently eating WRE from all sides.. But it is getting boring, my cash simple can't drop below 50k, I have 4 armies, 1 of them led by a 14 stars general (Unfortunately, I think their is a thing like max-10, because only 10 appear), 1 led by a 7 influence guy, and the other 2 led by to-be great commanders.
-
Re: World domination
There is a 10* max. The other stars have no effect.
I've never actually won a campaign. Closest I've ever got was taking the eastern half of the map with Egypt. Was stuck in a stalemate war against Scipii in North Africa. Got bored of countless legions and started a new campaign.

Re: World domination
i one 2 campaigns both with julii...but i never bothered to play after i got bored...or so powerful it was no challenge anymore
-
Re: World domination
I`ve won several campaigns in RTW, and "quite a few" in BI.
Right now I`m going for complete world domination with my Saxon VH/M campaign. Taken all of western and sentral Europe, and have started my invasions in Africa.
My first RTW campaign ever, The Julii on M/M, I conquered everything but 4-5eastern provinces.
I did not complete the Prologue.

Re: World domination
I don't ever go for world domination. Either I stop after the official campaign win, or sometimes I won't even go that far, if it looks like a win is in the bag and nobody left on the map can prevent it. Once in a while I'll play on past the official campaign win, if I want to wipe out an especially annoying faction that's been giving me trouble. Revenge is more important to me than world domination. ~D

Re: World domination
I did it once, eliminated all the factions. It isn't really fun, since it takes AGES to take the amazons, and by then all the cities have huge populations and are always rebelling. Because of this I never actually covered the whole map at once, seeing as there were several civil revolts each turn. It isn't very fun, in fact I'd advise against it, it is far more fun to play the early game until you are the strongest, then start a new campaign.
-
Re: World domination
Personally just until I win the faction objectives or notice that I don't like playing as that faction.
If you like World Domination, have a go at any mod that has Mundus Magna map. You'll see that world dominatino is almost impossible, especially with the massive map. Add that on to the season penalties that are present in EB...

Re: World domination
Ive seen many players say early game is harder than late game. I find the late game has the biggest and best battles. So really enjoy that dimension of the late game. Early battles are less grand.
What I dislike about late game is its size. As I micromanage everything a turn takes ages. Its a relief when Rome falls and the game 'officially ends'.
Yet I feel I need to paint the whole map one colour at least once. To say that I have done it. Fast Egyptian chariot forces should do this well although I suspect they will not fight too well in the snow.

Re: World domination
I only play till I´ve got Rome and the fifty provinces. An Egypt campaign was fun doing that - the Romans were the last I attacked and they had grown pretty strong, that was quite a bit of a challenge. Playing with the Romans there´s supposed to be the Civil war, but that never seems to start of its own for me and if I start it myself, I usually have the fifty-province quota almost completed, so its just a matter of taking Rome. Now, if the civil war started (of its own, I know I can start it myself after I get the "Chance for Power" message, either by cancelling my alliances with the other Roman factions or by trying to assasinate a Senate family member) when I have around twenty or thirty provinces, that would make things interesting.
But even though my popularity with the people can´t get any higher, the Senate never hates and fears me enough to outlaw me

Re: World domination
In RTW
Won with the Scipii, Brutii and Julii (longest ever campaign), Egypt, Carthage, Macedon, Seleucids and Greek Cities.
Ive also completed short campaigns with the Brits, Gaul and Spain. Ive never done a short or full campaign with Germania, though - which is strange as they seem to be the best Barbarian faction. Perhaps its their horrific starting position?
In BI
Ive won with the Sassanids, the Huns and the ERE. Almost won with the Saxons. Got till turn 10 with the WRE - I will go back though.
Currently going for world domination in my RTW Greek campaign (XGM mod).

Re: World domination
I never go beyond the win conditions, or only slightly. Late in the game most hordes factions are gone entirely, and the other kingdoms seem so feeble.
-
Re: World domination
I have gone for world domination once (and only just managed it for a turn) and it it not all its cracked up to be- days of crushing poor forces and wiping out rebbellions for a single moment of acheivement. I rarely get as far as fifty regions now as by the time you have thirty- fourty 'good' ones the challenge has gone- I have saves of most factions now waiting for the day when I want to finish them off. I never do.
-
Re: World domination
The only time where I took over the entire world and destoryed all the factions was when I was playing as the Brutii. There were always 5-6 provinces that were rebelling at any time, and the endless battles with rebels is boring...
-
Re: World domination
I did conquer the world on my first Julii game. It was fun but tedious, especially when it came to the impoverished Scythians and Parthians, where it took five turns of movement to get to the next town. That meant most every turn was just fooling with putting down the endless rebellions across the map.
So every game I've played since has just been until I won (or a little past winning, to kill off a particularly obnoxious faction).
-
Re: World domination
I never complete a campaign (even though I keep promising to) because it is obvious that I have become the No. 1 power and it's just tedious from that point onwards.
When I become too dominant there is no challenge, so I split and start a new one.
-
Re: World domination
I don't tend to complete a campaign either. Aside from perhaps wanting to see it through to the bitter end, it's all but over after taking 30 provences or so. Heck, really you know you're on the path to victory once you have secured your borders and weakened your neighbouring factions. The best part of any campaign is probably the opening 20-30 years, so I'd sooner start over once my faction is the obvious super-power in the game and enjoy a fresh challenge, than just continue the long and tedious 'clean-up' operation that is to attempt 50 regions or total world domination. I suppose with BI you at least got loyalty and hordes to add a continuing challenge throughout the campaign (although at times those things don't add up to much), but standard RTW has nothing to warrant playing on for more than necessary as far as I'm concerned.
-
Re: World domination
I've only one with a few of the factions because as soon as you get to a certain point it gets really boring. The beginning and mid-game are the best when you have lots of enemies and are fighting on many fronts at once. At a certain point, it's just a matter of getting your armies where you need them to win. There's no challenge after that so I stop. I think I'll try to world dominate at least once but not for a while.
-
Re: World domination
I always quit once I'm really steamrolling and it gets boring. I've completed one MTW campaign as Danes and none for rtw. I've beaten a couple BI factions, saxons, franks but they don't really count as you only need 15-20 whatever provinces makes just a short campaign (i've beaten a bunch of those, almost every faction)
-
Re: World domination
Tend to get bored of campaigns. Its fun at the start but once you get a foothold theres no stopping you.
I've finished a RTW Julii campaign, got midway through Greek Cities and Seleucids.
BI are easier to finish as they're shorter, so once your established only a few more cities and you've won. I've complated a Saxon, Alemanni and Vandal campaign (all three won by going soley for the WRE), started an ERE one too (might go back to it actually, since its half term break soon).
