The Germanic Tribes?

I was looking at the map the other day and it struck me that there's a big huge gap in the map in the eastern part of germania around the amber route region. Is there any historical accuracy in a second germanic confederation? It just seems that it might demonstrate the disunity of the germans in the same way as the aedui/Arvernii show the disunity of the gauls. Obviously if there wasn't another significant germanic grouping at this time then I wouldn't want one created, but I havent seen it discussed before, and if it was possible to have another faction in the region to prevent the sweboz/dacians from becoming superpowers I think it would be good for the game.

Well, the Dacians are supposed to be a superpower. ~D
Maybe the Marcomanni can be included? :book:

Historically the area was populated by the semi Germanic-semi Celtic Lugians, and in an ideal world they would already been represented in the game as a faction.

The Germans weren't unified by any stretch, but they also didn't have a situation whereby two huge and equally powerful factions / blocks fought for control of vast areas. The largest German proto-state in this period was the Seubi federation. For almost all of the period they had no rival in power. That federation was succeeded by a loose federation of the Cherusci by the game's end ...before being again succeeded by the Chatti towards the end of the 1st C AD. Yes the Germani had incessant inter tribal / state warfare, but nothing on the same scale (and devastation) that the Gauls inflicted on themselves. The Gauls had in effect a civil war, ..roughly north versus south. Few of their warrior class survived it.

I understand that mods like RTR 0.7 are depicting the Chatti as a large state to rival the Seubi but it's ahistorical / anachronistic and thus won't make it into EB. We are considering other options though. ~;)

Are they supposed to be? In all my campaigns they get to a certain river, and then just build as many stacks as possible and just sit around.

The river that eventually becomes part of the Northern Frontier of the Roman Empire? It might be due to the fact that in VH they have too much money, want secure borders, and their objectives lie elsewhere. Not sure about the objectives bit, but that's the best I can come up with. Also, the AI is famed for not exactly deserving of the 'I' section of it's name.

In my Makedonian campaign the Getai had crossed the Danube and were certainly making an effort to expand southwards. Rather unsuccessfully though, as they kept losing battle after battle against the strong Eleutheroi. (There was this one city they attacked every turn. It didn't have walls so there was no siege, just immediate battle which the Getic armies lost.)

The Cherusci federation under Armenius was competing for controll againgst Marbod, king of the Marcomanni 8 BC -19 AD. Both parties could muster about 75000 men and they even supposedly fought a roman stile battle against each other.

Teutobod, note the dates right there. They've set EB to be accurate for 272, not early AD.

You're thinking of Tylis, and I noticed that too in my last game. It has a unit of Gaestatae, that should explain it.
