An idea for a game using EB and the forum...

Not sure if anything like this has been done before, but i think it would be fun for everybody who is playing it, and my idea is this.

In the forum here, we create a senate. Within the senate we create, we elect a military tribune, just one to begin with, and also we elect a head senator who will be the face of the senate who will address the rest of us in our 'senate thread', the man who announces new decisions etc.

Then, the tribune picks a family member in game, but as a rule, you must pick a family member over the age of at least 30, or maybe that could be reduced to 25, we could vote on it. This tribune is given a legion, but does not control it in game, only in the forum here. As time goes on and the empire gets bigger, more tribunes can be added.

Then we must elect a person to be what i'l call for the moment, imperator. He will be the faction leader in game, and the man who actually plays the game, controls the armies etc... When his character dies in game, another one of us is elected, and the last saved game sent to him so he can continue. If one of the tribunes happens to be the heir, then he must give up his legion and become imperator, and another tribune will be elected to assume command of his legion.

See where i'm going with this? The tribunes ask for permission from the senate to use their legion for whatever reason. The senate vote on it, if it is passed, the tribunes give the precise orders to the imperator who will then use their legion to do exactly what the tribune here wants. But the imperator can't do anything but sit in Rome, he can't make any military decisions and can only use armies that are under the command of a tribune. He has no real power, he just plays the game for us, tis the tribunes and the senate who are the ones that will make decisions to expand our empire.

And this is my basic idea... Obviously we won't do it until EB has been released in a proper build with most of the units added and stuff, so not for a while, but what does everybody think? I think it could be fun. Discuss. Make your own suggestions.

I was also thinking we could have an admiral, a man elected to look after the defense of certain areas, like Italy, Spain, Africa, Greece etc... And he will have a legion to use incase of an emergency.

Also the imperator obviously will have to take screenshots, lots of them, and keep the senate and the tribunes up to date for every year of gameplay. And also i was thinking we could maybe find a group of people to give traits to our tribunes and to our senators, and if we could find someone with a basic knowledge of photoshop, they could make a profile, like the profile a family member has in game.

Also we will need to think of something to implement that will cause arguments and unrest within our senate and tribunes, as historically they were always quarreling about something or other.

I've done a similar but far less organised version of this already for RTR ~;) But I kinda jumped into it without thinking about it (or even intending it to turn into a big roleplay that boomed literally overnight - I wake up and there's 5 pages of reading to catch up on...), so if you can plan it properly it will be quite good. However, I've found my version extremely hard to organise in a single thread, so unless you can create a forum somewhere (like invisionfree or somesuch), you're going to have a tough time keeping it all together.

Good luck though, it will be an interesting read ~D

Well, can we have consuls alternating every 2 turns? Pontifex Maximus chooses the temples, not sure about the length of the PM's rule though.

I'm not making all the rules... I just gave the basic idea that i thought of... Everybody can suggest whatever they like and i'll get it all down on paper and in the future when we have a totally stable EB version with all the units added in, we can do it...

I forgot the name of the guys who commanded a legion during the republic.. Were they consuls? I called them military tribunes in my first post but i'm fairly sure now that isn't what they should be called...

Anyway i think if we all came together and worked it all out properly something like this could be really fun... Although maybe what i'm aiming for is impossible...

How about letting the army commanders (replace with appropriate term, or whatever you're using) fight their own battles? For instance, you move the army, but when it engages in battle, you save on the pre-battle screen (where you choose to Fight, Auto-Resolve or Withdraw) and send it to the General, he fights it out, and returns the save-game without touching anything else.

I can think of 3 issues with this:

1. Saving in the middle of the battle-screen won't allow the script to be activated when the game loads, only after the battle when you can click something for the advisor to come up, unless there is another way.

2. You need to verify things to make sure the General dídn't touched anything, which will be very, very tedious if the controlled territory ever gets large enough to require a 10 minute scan.

3. If the battle happens during the enemy's turn, after the battle is done and the player turn commences he will have to write up, or take screenshots of the reports, diplomacy, financial, character messages, etc.. Because the save-game does not save those reports.

Well, if I could get an army, and fight my army's battles, it would certainly be more fun than letting you do it, but probably takes more work and patience, if it even can be done properly.

This was the reason i suggested our imperator (just a name i'm using for now, can be changed to something more historic later) fights all the battles and then posts a report, because the script gets de-activated...

I don't think it'll work... Perhaps i was just dreaming. :shame:

Wait, will you have a real game started on someone's computer and then people start controlling individual family members, etc?

I think i'm just gonna give up on the idea before i even start hurting my brain thinking of rules that could make it work properly...

Let this thread die. Twas doomed from the very begginning.

Historically there were two consular legions, each commanded by one consul.

But there's no way we could do it... Passing a saved game file each battle to both consuls would take forever... The senate idea wouldn't work properly because, well... It's not as if we're deciding the fate of our wonderful city, we're just voting on what happens in a game... Our goal is to recreate the Roman empire, so when a consul asks for permission from the senate to conquer a certain part of the Roman empire, the senate would all just agree... There's no point in not aggreeing, since diplomacy is non-existant in RTW, so there are no repurcussions from going to war with certain people... There's just no way it could be done.

Well, we could just agree to attack the certain faction and then after that you can take every single province of theirs if you want. So, just votes on war and on ceasefires/protectorates. It could play like a PBeM.

But then it might as well just be a PBM.

If only there was such thing as a multiplayer campaign. :shame:
