Petition to get MTW GOLD Patched to 2.01
Put your name in this thread to list your desire to see MTW GOLD be able to be patched without having to break the EULA.
If you have any other avenues of leverage (such as gaming forums and magazines) then list them here. Particularly any other petition threads on other TW sites.
United we stand.

Well, it's a bit let letting the barbarians in through the gates, but I guess we really need full compatibility for those who've only just discovered MTW/VI :2thumbsup:
That's a "yes", by the way :book:

Re: Petition to get MTW GOLD Patched to 2.01
Definitely add my signature to the list. I don't have Gold edition, but I can certainly feel the pain of those who do. I remember all too well what a royal pain in the butt Viking Invasion 2.0 was before the patch.... :furious3:

Can you not just patch it yourself?
-
Re: Petition to get MTW GOLD Patched to 2.01
I'm in.
BTW: Shaun - no, apparently if you patch it, it does not work (doesn't recognise the CD). You have to use some dodgy cracks or something to get around the problem.

Re: Petition to get MTW GOLD Patched to 2.01
So the EULA control the CD?! 0-o

The EULA states that the game can't be copied or cracked etc. Installing the unoffical VI patch over the Gold Edition stops the Gold Edition CDROM from being recognised by the installation, this is because it is the Medieval_TW.exe file that reads and verifies the CD copy protection and this is patched (replaced by a new file). The patched Medieval_TW.exe v2.01 will be looking for the VI disc and not the Gold edition disc, so the game simply won't run. The only way around this, for the moment, is to violate the EULA by using one of the "dodgy cracks" mentioned above. This is why CA need to get on this embarrassing problem straight away.

Re: Petition to get MTW GOLD Patched to 2.01
This is certainly a strange issue indeed. When I got the game home I installed it on my first PC, only to find that it was V2.0 as described here. However I tried installing it on my second lower spec. pc and it installed V2.01 first try. Nothing I can do will get it to install the borked version on my second computer nor can I seem to get it to install V2.01 on my first computer (other than using the workaround aluded to). Strange.
There is no particular difference between the computers that I could see that would of caused this, they're both XP with SP2 installed.
Still I'll sign a petition to encourage them to sort out this garbled mess.
PS I sent an email to the techsupport people who you are prompted to contact on the Sega support site before I found the workaround, so it'll be interesting to see what (if anything) they recommend.

I don't own M:TW gold, but I'll add my voice to this as well.

I don't own it either, but I'd like to see newer players getting into MTW, though this present situation is not giving them the best start.

Count me in, too. This situation implies terrible Q/A at the publisher, eh?

Hugely embarrassing for the QA team, and im sure heads will role for this.
I really cant understand how things like this seem to slip through so easily. I worked at Codemasters as a QA technician a few years ago and the amount of protocols and safety systems in place, made these type of things almost impossible to happen.
It'll be very interesting in the next few weeks to what action CA and Sega will take to resolve this situation.
I really hope they do the right thing for customers and loyal fans of this series, and if they dont i and many other people will be extremely disappointed.
