I'm going to assume you're using standard 100baseT ethernet, and standard IP networking. Either of these assumptions could be wrong, but that's the most likely configuration.
Maximum distance of a 100baseT ethernet cable: 100 meters.
If you're only going to use a single subnet, you can fit 224 PCs and/or printers (or whatever other devices use up an IP address).
Obviously, if you choose to use multiple subnets, the number of devices you can attach increases geometrically. Hope this answers your question, or at least gets you started down the right path.
