The Renaisance World: Total War

This mod is based on the original concept by Lonely Soldier, his idea to create a whole playable world from the dawn of time to the modern day. The concept has wittled down in scale somewhat to a new start date of 1453, the year that Constantinople fell to the Turks, marking the end of the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire).

ma man, what about the portuguese??? they are an unmistakingly importante faction of the Renaissance...they were the ones who directly and indirectly started the renaissance....with the nautical, and geographic discoveries, even before the Spanish...so making a renaissance mod without portugal is a waste of time.. and as always ppl tend to give the english, french, and germans, way too much importance in the renaissance, when in truth they hadn't. don't forget that this powers only expanded later, and at the expense of robbing, betraying the portuguese, spanish and papal states... that's a fact...maybe you should add portugal too...that's my point...

Yeh im planning to add Portugal as a faction given that it doesnt detract from adding factions from the rest of the world, Europe will have the most factions of course, given that there maybe the option for up to 30 factions then Portugal will DEFINATLY be there, although it will more than likely be present anyway, I'm working it out currently :)

The Inca would dominate the Americas pretty easily, though. Also, how can you only have two factions representing all the Islamics?

I dont mean to get nasty but if you read at the top of the factions list it says "the lists are incomplete" i havnt decided on many of the factions yet, still doing research to find more for both the islamic and american regions. The Far East also only has 4 factions to date. America will have at least 2 more factions representing natives of north america.

Suggestions are welcomed... still alot of the potential factions depend on the rumoured 30 factions count for M2TW, 30 factions would make the mod that much more interesting.

I understand that while your faction lsit is incomplete, this looks a bit odd so far.

1/2 your factions are already included by CA, and its right in the middle of the current time period, I just dont see the idea here? Maybe i missed it?

I think the time period for this mod starts where the M2TW campaign will be winding down and I suspect it will extend past it.

But anyway, I suspect that with the compressed passage of time in M2TW, there will be a lot of scope for mods that look at specific eras in more detail.

You will probably be doing the time period of EU2 I suppose?

Also how are you possibly going to get such a large expanse of land using the limits of MTW2....is Britain going to be scaled down to the size of a large coin or something?

econ has the right idea here, I havnt posted an end date because im delagating where to end, probably about 2 centuries afer the start date, but wont enter the Napolenonic Period for definate. I'm not familiar with EU2 but im aware that it does run similar to Pike and Musket's dates but the detail on the factions and landscape will obviously be much less.

The issue with the world map has already been tempered with by a contact of the old team, I'll have to chase him up again. He used the largest map scale possible without being ridiculous and it does mean that britain is extremly small. It means that importance of individual cities will be much greater... London maybe the only starting english city (need to research) but it will provide all the wealth of britain, all things that need to be tried and tested. Although not the same style of game, if you play the world map scenario on Civilization IV then you see that they have the same issue there. The point of the game comes around mamaging an empire accross the world adding the challange of having huge distances to cover with your armies.

The faction names may appear to be the same and thats because they historically were. I've researched items for Europe and these were the powers dominate through the period (Aztecs/Inca/North Americans are not but are required to make the game interesting).

The type of warfare fought in this mod is particually different to the medieval period, your knights wont stand up to much against a volley of muskets.

Sorry, but you are planning to make a mod starting in 1453, WITHOUT the largest european state i.e. Poland-Lithuania ?

Yeh ok Poland is yet again another faction that should be here, i dont know much about this period so im learning as i go along. I found a whole lot of media for the Croats too so i want to include some of their units. Poland as a state is likely and i aslo want to add an Austro-Hungarian faction if i have room for them. The need for 30 factions is proving great, i hope i can add what everyone wants limitations aside.

You can always check our Pike and Musket subforum for some feedback - you are not directly in my 'turf' so you can ask for some support - it will be your decision what to choose anyway.
I realise how hard choice it is, believe me that is why I placed our starting date in 1570 to avoid too many medieval/early renaissance units and I am still worried it could be hard to prepare the final unit roster for MTW2 edition.

And I say it after more than 2 years of dedicated research of many people with considerable knowledge in the beginning...

With choice being what it is, a few nations will probably become "permenantly allied" as one faction, others will be represented as rebels. The far east will be filled with diffuclt rebels to make progress difficult for them.

Citadel: Total War has the same idea. They've been around for 2 years or so. Perhaps you could help them? Their time frame is 1402 - 1600.

Timescale the same, aim is not. Citadel seems more similar to Pike and Musket, with time scale shifted to the left.

your forgetting the Dutch...they were pretty big in the renaissance...and theres also Venice and Denmark.

Venice and The Netherlands (Dutch) are on my potentials list and will be added if i can fit them in, lets pray to CA for 30 factions :)

Sorry for no updates, been working on my physical fitness levels in preperation for my football team's first ever friendly (port talbot [wales] sunday league). I'll be doing a small preview of the Japanese units some time soon, got a good book for reference on samurai as well as many other aspects that this mod covers.

after the battle of Mohács (1556) - the main hungarian army lost and the king dead, one part of the hungarian nobels assist the Hasburg Ferdinand (1526-1564) but the eastern part of the country is (Transylvania) assist a hungarian noble (János Szapolyai)...
after 1541 the turkish occupy the capital city of Buda (Budapest)
the country fall apart three part:
- north: Kingdom of Hungary
- south: Realm of the Turkish
- east: the independent Principality of Transylvania (hungarians, székely - the descendant of Attila the Hun - , szász - Saxon and romanian)

this part is always try to reunion the Kingdom of Hungary
and the austian always want to rule this land but we can speak austo-hungarians only after 1867...

What of 1453? as i have already stated, my knowledge of this period is weak so im learning as i go here. Which would be more prominent for my start date?? I'll include both as playable factions if possible but i need a top 20 and a potential 10 at the moment.

at 1521 I Szulejmán Sultan attacked the hungarians
and at 1526 (Mohács) Szulejman detroyed the hungarian main army
(at this time the hungarian's greatest warrior was a priest called Tomori Pál)

after this the country fallen into pieces and the hungarians has to fight with the austrish and the turkish too...

There are many brave man in Matthias' Balck Army like Pál Kinizsi (he ride on a black horse and his favorite weapon was the two handed sword, usually one in each hand;-))

Hey all. I would be interested in doing a bit of historical research for this if you're interested. I'm currently doing an A-level (the exams after compulsory education and before university (for anyone not from the U.K.)) in early modern history so I've just finished looking at Henry VIII, Louis XiV, and the English Civil War. Next school year I'm studying the Mid-Tudor crisis, Elizabeth I, and the Golden Age of Spain. Basically my mind is currently on the renaissance, which I'm interested in anyway, so it wouldn't be hard for me to read around the subject a little more and contribute to this mod if it makes it to development.

Did you guys ever make the campaign map? The one covering the whole world (from when this mod was supposed to be a RTW mod). Because if you did and it actually works (it shouldn't be possible due to the landmass ratio) I would really like to take a look at it and mabe use it to a minimod of mine. If thats ok though.
