Alright Agreas my man. Good to see Ynys Manau's Geography fixed, when i played the WIP the mountains were far too high, it wasnt that fun. Can't wait to get RTW re-installed and ATW up and running.
Re: Arthurian TW Preview 26th June: Campaign Map

Re: Arthurian TW Preview 26th June: Campaign Map
When were the fens drained? Have you taken this into account?
Re: Arthurian TW Preview 26th June: Campaign Map
You mean why Thanet is an island all overall about fens?
Re: Arthurian TW Preview 26th June: Campaign Map
I'm talking about east anglia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fens
Shouldn't there be less land there as much of it was claimed from the sea around the 1630's ?
...and shouldn't the land which is there be boggy and very hard to maneuvre in?

Hi Myrddraal
Good pick up on this, it's something we'll need to look at a bit more. I will certainly look at at getting Uranos to make this area swampy for starters. Ironically I had already scripted flooding of this low lying area....without even knowing about the fens.
As far as land reclamation, while Agraes is away I'll look at the maps of the reclaimed land and work backwards to establish the extent of land grabbing.
cheers

Re: Arthurian TW Preview 26th June: Campaign Map
Hmm looking at in in more depth I get the impression that the coastal outline was similar, but the lands near the coast were just too swamped for armies.

Excellent work... I just looked at the other previews from here and TWC. It's a shame that I didn't find this mod out sooner, I would have loved to offer help with the historical research -although it looks like you guys were just fine in that area- as an enthusiast of this time period. The previews have me truly on edge for the release. :2thumbsup:

If you're willing to make an honest commitment we could still use beta testers. PM me here or at TWC if you're interested in helping test and willing to commit some time to it (which will then afford you the opportunity to provide some historical input as well ~;)).

I live just south of the fens in cambridge, bloody weird walking up there, the river is higher than the fields.
It was so remote in the fens celtic langages were still spoken there in the 8th century.
PS. amazing looking map!

On what? The geographical Fens issue, or the mod in general?
If the latter, I can assure you that it is still very much alive and going strong. :book:

This looks good, I shall be downloading it.
This period is a very interesting period as not only is it when the foundations of England and Scotland were laid, along with, in many ways, the foundations of Modern Europe.

I think you are mistaken. East Anglia was one of the older English settlements, being as far as it is to the east of England. By the 8th Century (700s) most of the Celts of England has either fled to Western Britain and to Brittany, been massacred or assimilated into the English.
It has become popular to try and claim a more Celtic origin for England and/or to claim their language (Brythonic) as lasting longer (in England) that it did, however the evidence is against such notions. You will note the lack of Celtic derived words in English (if the language had survived that long into the English period then we would have more Celtic words in the English Language...the English have borrowed foreign words from almost the beginning). The few Celtic derived words we have in English are from a later period and are predominately from Irish and then from French (which gave us many more Latin and Frankish words). If Brythonic survived inside the English Kingdoms during the period we would have more Celtic words from the Old English period (as we do with Latin words...due to the church).
The Celtic Language did however survive in parts of what is now England namely Cornwall and Cumbria however they were not English Kingdoms, and when they were incorporated into England the languages went almost extinct (and thus had to be revived as in the case of Cornish). Even in Wales the language needed a boost in more recent times.

Thanks for your comments. Just to clarify, since people sometimes come across these old threads without realizing it, that this preview is 18 months old, ATW has since been released. You can find the initial releases here and the update here. Most discussion goes on at our TWC subforum.
